I fooled around last season with two traps at some cat walk through sets. I have them hooked together similar as shown above. Caught cats and coyotes that way but most times one trap per set and two sets close. I have plenty of traps and finite energy anymore and could put two at a lot more sets this year. I did like the two good obvious stepping spots better than one sometimes.

In addition, I usually always have a 2nd trap on the backside of my walk-thru sets when the snow is over 4" but never a 2nd trap with bare ground. I experiemented with the" bare ground 2-trap" concept and didn't like it.

Ok. When you HAVE TO CATCH TO STOP THE CARNAGE instead of fur trapping you use two or more traps per set. Yes you are there longer but you are working off a ground clothe but mathematically you are doubling your chances. I have heard it all------ if it's in the right place you only need one Yada Yada whatever. More steel in the ground higher catch rate blind trail sets catch the educated stock killers and you don't take a chance on just one trap

Just got done for day. Headed to Sheep Country say this post. KS Wolfer your are 100 % correct. Do Whatever you need to do to make = Killing Stop !!!! Go 4 trap set next to sheep right now. Its the pasture before the 7600 acre sheep pasture. Thats as close as i HOPE they get ! At 250 a sheep and a say = 2500 a month job on the line. Why not use as many traps AS needed to get job done. On big ranch 250000 acres of cows and game animals. I do just set 1. On 107000 acres of sheep ? O now never set less than 2 per set. Job on the line ? Have to stop killing ? Set more traps —— per set.

I like two traps. [Linked Image]
But I'd rather have two coyotes.

I found years ago that Coyotes have an inherent behavior as it relates to trying to pinpoint a scent in deep snow or a snow covered set. Lucero describes it in his book with his dirt hole set if it gets past his trap. The coyote will circle around about 6”-8” out away from the scent until it’s up wind of the scent source. Whether it’s a Disco Dirt Hole set or Walk-Thru set I’m using with deeper snow cover(usually a 3-point Walk-Thru), The added 2nd trap at the back of either set will be the one that connects! I’ve learned to change-out my bare ground guiding when snow is forecast to taller guiding which certainly helped me but a set can be overwhelmed wiith snow depth so that the best laid plans of guiding aren’t going to work. It’s the 2nd trap is what it takes to increase the odds of killing the next coyote!!
