Carried out a turkey once that just stunk like rotten meat went I looked it over it had a branch piece in it’s breast covered with scar tissue that was festered.

That's my vote too. Lipomas, or fatty tumors of the skin, are extremely common in domestic dogs. Unless they ulcerate or are in a bad area, where they effect motion, they are typically left untreated as they are fairly benign. Keith
