I use the trace mineral blocks - the brown ones- usually sell for 5.99 - 7.99. The deer hit them consistently. Plus in the spring the does and bucks hit them hard - really hard. Helps the bucks antler growth and helps the pregnant and nursing does. Helped the quality of deer and number of deer on my place increase a lot in the last 6 years. Had those out for 2 yrs, still do.....I wanted more(protein)

Nice- Control what you can control- adding nutrients helps in spring for lactation in does and antler growth for bucks. Food plots are a great way to introduce high levels of protein also, clover, beans, peas etc. We shoot our nicest bucks during the wettest years, everything is chock full of nutrients, depending on how hard your area gets hunted makes controlling the age of a whitetail challenging. Genetics can also be the largest contributing factor - who were the parents of the nice buck that got killed off a few years ago, no one knows. If you're chasing world class whitetails you need the trifecta: 1) Age 2) Genetics 3) Nutrition
yup,i know....all valid points ...thanks

Does Ohio have Mentored youth hunting?
Wisconsin went to this technically you can bring your infant hunting an buy them a license so far I think the youngest I have heard of who actually shot a deer was 5 which seems a little small for me , your little guy must be getting close to big enough to hunt then you will have all those doe , choose the oldest and to harvest and fill the freezer.
with the new Ohio state strait wall cartridge laws you can get a gun to fit a small person , they only need to learn some marksmanship to put the round int he right place.

They do Pete.........He feeds these deer here...we have people hunting all the properties around ours so (his) is the only safe zone. Goats on it soon. My freezers are full.....no need

Ive planted protein in yrs past....alfalfa,clover,timothy,fawn fescue, orchardgrass etc....from the days when I pastured horses here. Need to broadcast some in with the old grass again. After crops come off the only forage thats good quality is what a few of us have in grasslands......I have 5 feeding here every night just from my pastures
