I have a quarterly Dr's appointment, so can get prescriptions refilled. I haven't been to the Dr. since my fall on Dec 26. I still have headaches and nose is still sore at the base where it meets the skull. Well... needless to say the Dr. had a hissy fit. because I didn't have a scan and yada, yada, yada... So he starts feeling my head, with pressure, all over. I ask what he was doing. He said, he was trying to determine if I might have any fractures. I said, you can feel them? He said no, but you will.

My nose is very sore at its base and when he was about to start on it... I told him he had better feel my nose a lot easier than he did my or head, or he had better be ready for a punch in the guts. He was much easier.

He determined there was no fracture to my skull, I did have a concussion, and it appears I did some damage where the cartilage of the nose meets the skull, but can't determine the amount of damage, because I am to bull headed to get a scan. I told him I would get a scan if he was willing to pay the difference that my insurance wouldn't pay.... and he wasn't willing.

Still have headaches most everyday and about pee my pants when I sneeze or blow my nose. Under the circumstances he said, using ice pack and Tylenol was about all I could do and if it got worse or didn't get better, to let him know.

My question would be how a scan will make life better? If that could lead to info that would help diagnose something that he can do something about it would be worth looking at. But if it mostly academic and time is the healer then I would also not want to spend any extra dough.

The scan could diagnose an unknown clot from the impact that created the concussion! Hope that all is well for you Actor and any symptoms you have will soon subside!

Seems like you should be healed up and getting some relief by now. Better get the scan and see what is up.

It’s a shame a guy can’t get a scan because of the costs.

Its a shame that people such as your self will risk death
because of cost.
With today's tech of looking inside the body and seeing what could be fixed in way less time than waiting for self healing.

It's also a same that others don't understand what scans will locate and ignore them because they are stubborn !!

Hope you get the nerve to bite the bullet, before your fall does you in !!

I found a place above two hours from my house that would do x-ray and scanning for way less than the hospital. Maybe check around your area for a better price.

Some seem confused with the difference between needing it, wanting it and affording it.

Ouch! Know what you mean... Okay here is the Hard cold facts... Law Dog hit it pretty close... even with Insurance it will cost me about $500 out of pocket. I need my 20 year old car over-hauled, 2 burners and the oven piolets won't light, my budget for food a day is $5.62. I get tired of borrowing money to get by. In 2008/09, when the markets crashed I lost almost everything I had been saving for the last 20 years. The fund magr. was a crook, spent most of the money and then filed bankruptcy, then left the country. I ended up almost nothing in return. What was it someone said about "Good Laid Plans"? Of course downturn in fur prices didn't help and back problems prevailed me from doing anything of any substance.

So, I no longer have any plans for the future other than surviving one day at a time. I am paying off the one eye cataract surgery I got, at $15 per month. I no longer have a life, as far as doing anything of any substance … I help friends research their genealogy and at this time. that is it. AM I happy? Not really! I wish I was able to... to do the things I had planned when I retired... BUT … it ain't going to happen.

I seldom ask for anything, except advice, but I will give what ever I have if you need it, just ask me.

I wish you the best of luck, Garry. It takes us old farts longer to heal. I figure that you will try to tough it out in hopes it gets better, being that you are an ole trapper. Just don't let it go too long without improvement.
I don't want to read a post in the near future about, "Remember that guy from Ohio who croaked from a knock to the noggin?"

Actor I had a colt buck me off on concrete way back in the day and had a similar injury to the nose / nasal area under the cheek bone. It was a slow healing ordeal and I remember sleeping in a chair with an ice pack on my face quite a few times. When I laid down the son of buck would start throbbing. I wish you well and I hope you heal soon.

Buddy of mine got a job as a greeter at Walmart, he was older and about in the same boat. He loved it, looking at girls all day long and getting paid for it. Worked there almost until he died.

We need to do this "$50 signed book" deal differently. Someone needs to take the lead on it so Gary only has to do the signing part of it.

I completely agree, to die over a couple hundred is absurd in my thinking. Health is nothing to mess with and when it comes to my health I’d pay as much as I could
