Not good at posting links, but if you want to hear some decent " modern " countryish songs look up Chris Knight songs on youtube." Framed " and " Down The River " are a couple good ones.If anyone looks em up,,I would like to hear your opinion.
Here you go upstateNY....for your listening pleasure!
Thanks ole boy.Down The River is definitely one of his "darker" mood songs but I still like it.Listen to some of his other stuff, little more upbeat. At least I can understand his lyrics.

What happened to country music? Was documented a few months back in an 8 part, 16 hour special on PBS television called "Country Music". Long story short, it died 20 years ago. In the modern era, 99.9% of all stations are owned by a handful of outfits with only 1 or 2 program directors for all of them. I call it "corporate country". So no matter what modern era station you listen to, 99.9% of it is all the same.........just hideous noise by some pretty boy hat rack........each has his own brand.....gotta have a brand.
So the real deal stuff is still alive.........but hard to find. A few oldies country stations.......not many but a few.........Youtube and a few back street joints in Nashville.

Country music started going down hill when the took Hank Williams Jr. off Monday night football and when the NFL would not stand for the National Anthem.
To Old U.S. Army 60-63 SGT.

Probably about the time washed up rock act Conway Twitty was releasing "his new country hits" in the 1970's which were all rock n roll hits, was an indication that Country was dying. "Country" under Garth and the crotch jean girls and boys all became BAD rock n roll. The reason I state it is bad rock is because rock was based on the blues and this stuff coming out of Nashville now is just Sean Hannity gunk. Country was rooted in Holler music and Spirituals of the old Irish and English tunes. Rock music is as dead as country. I still listen to the Bluegrass which is local, but when you can not tell the difference between Justine Bieber and I honestly do not know what is the din coming out of Nashville now as "stars", that is not music. It is the same horrid sound. I personally think the reason it sells, is because unlike Johnny Cash's up tempo sound, everything now is miserable and people are all miserable. When I start hearing my brother saying' "I like that song if you listen to the lyrics", I know it is time to pull the plug as the prose of. "Yeah we're comin' to your city. Gonna play our guitars and sing you some country songs" is not "I was a willow last night in a dream. I bent down over a clear running stream."
This is why radio plays all oldies and God help this world when the Boomers all go to the grave, as the oldies will disappear on market share. It is unsettling to remember the kids of rock n roll, to see people with canes and white hair as a rock audience.

Check out Cody Jinks, Jason Isbell, and Aaron Lewis, good stuff is still being made it’s just not getting played much.
Jason Isbell is very good. He does the best cover of Into the Mystic that I've heard. Johnny Lang comes to mind also. I've seen him live twice. He does more gospel music now. Amazing performer.

We had the pleasure of hosting Larry Cordel Carl Jackson, and Jerry Salley at our farm a few years ago when they were doing a nearby show. It was interesting to talk to them about it as good artists and even better songs are written everyday but corporate country music wants nothing to do with it. Larry wrote murder on music row that got a lot of backlash. It doesn't take much to get a recording contract or songwriting contract nowadays but if you don't have a look or huge cult following your nothing to then executives.
