A friend in the muzzleloading gun club I belong to wanted a capote "style" coat made from a candy striped HB blanket he picked up. He saw the late 18th century style I wear at reenactments and really liked it. I had to make a minor adjustment to the pattern to fit him (much more barrel chested than I am). Here is the result after a few nights of hand sewing. I still need to add ties to hold it closed. After trying it on, my wife did not want to take it off. I guess I will be making another in the near future. The last picture shows the dark blue wool welt in the arm and shoulder sleeves. This is before the hood went on.

You do some nice work I've collected 3 different wool blankets that would work very well for coats like that but haven't done anything with them yet.

My ex made me one back in the 80's. It's from a solid green blanket we picked up at the great trails rendezvous. She did a great job on it and there's nothing warmer. I really like your hood, very nice.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I really like your hood, very nice. It would have to be darn cold out to wear it while doing any sort of manual labor. Even snowshoeing in it would be hot unless it was well below freezing. They are great for sitting around a fire on a crisp night sipping some pie out of a jar.

What's your budget Ness? Thrift stores here some times have older blankets.
Like most things, you get what you pay for in blankets. I know my good point blankets weren't cheap, but they've kept me warm for 20 years and have a lot of life left in them. They say yah need 100% virgin wool...and a 3 point for a match coat...Iam 6’2” 260. Like to stay around 100.00

you can vote your way into socialism, but you will have to shoot your way out.
