I have been accumulating ammo over the years and now my closet in the other bedroom is filling up.

Is there a storage unit that's portable and sealed tight that could accommodate my supply?

Something that's water proof and easily stacked up.

I have a 4 foot high crawl space w/concrete floor. The furnace is down there also, so its not cold.

I appreciate the information. Even a site to go look at.

Thanks

those blue plastic barrels work

Ammo cans stack and sort for easy access Mark the contents on the outside of the cans.

I was thinking of getting some cheap storage totes and then put my ammo in my ammo boxes and store then that way.

The desiccant packets would help also.

Temps aren't the enemy to ammo storage that humidity is. A cool, dry place and ammo can be kept indefinitely.

Seniortrap- if you are interested in the blue barrel option, I have a bunch I could sell. I believe that they are 30 gallon barrels, all come with air tight lids and locking rings. PM me if interested. With us both in Michigan, we could meet somewhere to avoid shipping.

I don't like ammo cans unless I have loose ammo to store. I prefer ammo cabinets. Something along these lines... https://www.thesafekeeper.com/stack-on-asc-1416-firepower-ammo-cabinet.html

home depot has lockable totes. Some have wheels even so they can slide easy

both metal and poly ammo cans label on the outside with painters tape and sharpie , pack when dry in the house and seal up.

I have 30-06 ammo stored in a metal ammo can in my closet for the last 28 years still shot like new , I don't have much left but when I had one of my first jobs as a kid I would cash my pay check and go buy a box or 30-06 at the hardware store , I only wish I would have kept buying it when the price went up to 11 dollars a box. but I stopped.

put some 2x4 down on the floor to keep the cans off the floor incase the floor sweats then stack doing the same

I have thought about vacuum packing ammo with my food saver but never really got around to it folding the box flat and placing rounds in in rows stagered I figured I could get more in a can but just never got to it

the poly ammo cans also work fine , Plano makes some that look like the metal ones just in plastic , just don't stack those too high

the metal 50 cal cans are 7 1/2 high , 6 wide and 12 long

if you run out of room making 2 rows around the perimeter and stacked 2 high I am sure you will figure out a basic shelving setup with some 2x4 and such

It has to be airtight. For ammo I will be shooting within a couple years like 7.62 X 39, I fill a small bag full of desiccant (I use party favor bags like you see at weddings with candy in them), put a case of ammo in a vacuum bag and use my food sealer. It works very well and you can tell if the seal ever fails. I buy the desiccant in a large bag at craft stores. Women use it to dry flowers. I like the stuff with the blue specks in it. You can tell if it absorbs moisture because the blue specks will disappear. If that happens, you just pop the desiccant in the microwave and nuke the moisture out of it. The blue specks will reappear. You can use it over and over. If you cut the bags oversized, you can reuse them also. It works well. I also use ammo cans but they are expensive and bulky.

If you got that much you need to sell some . It will go bad before you use it. Ammo "hoarding" is why 22 rimfires went to 80 bucks a brick few years back.

no having not horded enough when the price was low and supply plentiful lead to 80 dollars a brick when peopled panicked when they had used up their 200 round multi year supply and now needed 2K rounds each.

had everyone gone into that with a near lifetime supply banked and stored their would have been little need to panic buy.

They are selling .22 ammo now in bigger amounts then ever before I see Cabala’s has a 1,600 round ammo can on sale, federal had the Black box rebates on up to 4 boxes of 1,600 rounds each how is that hoarding in any way they offer a product with incentives you buy it.

I walk by a display of ammo on sale I buy a couple bricks, the next guy walks on by it and buys nothing it’s a matter of choice nothing else. Now down the road there is a shortage so Mr. walk by needs ammo do I sell it to him for the walk by price when he had the same opportunity and passed at that price.

It’s just a lesson in economics is all. wink
