Was out making some beaver sets this morning. The location is about a 1/2 mile hike in so I went in light, snares, wire and a machete. On my way out I came across this nice location. I sure could use a foothold and a drowner rig but I don’t so..... I took a snare (noted in red) and laid it across the crawl out, ran it over a small stick, down in the water and made a small loop where I would place a foot hold. Covered the wire crossing the crawl out with some loose dirt. The thought, the beaver reaches the crawl out, plants it’s back foot in the snare, reaches up to crawl out, the loose dirt gives way causing it to pull the cable closed on the back foot. I’m actually laughing myself but I may not be in the morning. lol

Sometimes, you have to do the best you can with what you have. I like it and hope it connects for you.

When ever I lay snares I get some surprises. The last one was a 400# boar snagged by the snout who broke his own neck before he ever tried to pull backwards (apparently). The rancher and I will no doubt have a moment of silence when I pass the bad news.

Snares are cheap, set it.

I would like to report the set was a success but it wasn’t tested. The catch was made at this set.

It will have to be tested another time. Only caught the one and there has been no new evidence. The rain last night washed out the dam and left my snares high and dry.
