Great video, thanks for posting! I would like to try that but it seems we never have ice anymore around here with these easy winters.

Yes,and to help them find the pole if your not in the run. How far off the beaten path do you think beaver travel under ice? Rally mentioned in a thread I started to put a set in the middle of the pond and let the beaver find it. I normally place my sets between the lodge and the feed pile and have had pretty good success doing it, but I'm a long way from a beaver slayer. Some of you guys catch more beaver in a year than I've caught in my life.

Right in the run is best,or between the feedbed and the house,or around the outside of the feedbed. This is where the beaver spend most of their time in winter. When using snarepoles, your consideration will be feed in the way to hinder the set. When using traps in the entrance, feed is not so much of a problem,as runs under the feed can be set with traps by moving the feed out just enough with a feed hook to place the traps. Beaver spend most of their time around the house and feedbed in winter, although they have bank/feed holes here and there. They usually have feed stashed near the feed holes separate from the main lodge and feedbed. They also occasionally swim to the dam,but do not repair it after ice is on,that is why often, with bush runoff streams the water percolates out of the pond as winter progresses.

It goes good with 2 guys working together, you can pile them up if travel conditions remain good and you have enough big colonys to target not too far apart.

Safety wire (11 or 14 ga annealed, same as the tie off wire) runs up from bottom of pole to top above ice.Run it before tying on snares.Where there are a lot of beaver, often after a catch other beaver will cut and remove the green pole. The safety wire allows you to retrieve your catch and snares when the pole is gone.

Right in the run is best,or between the feedbed and the house,or around the outside of the feedbed. This is where the beaver spend most of their time in winter. I've never donned chest waders to tiptoe around a lodge looking for entry/exit holes as it's not legal to trap within ten feet of where the lodge meets the water or the ice in my parts. Seems like most the places beaver dwell around here are hellholes to get near no matter what time of the year it is and summer is the worst. They dam up an area but the land is so flat, the water forms all sorts of channels running back into the swamps and it can cover acres. Just finding the lodge can be a real challenge. It's a frustrating deal.
