I was doing a search for a better quality stacked dado set and came across this tidbit:

Quote
As already mentioned dado blades are illegal on UK (EU) table saws because in order to use them the guard and riving knife have to be removed, and is therefore unsafe. This is not the case in the USA. Because of this, all UK or european table saws are deliberatley fitted with short arbors to prevent their use.

Talk about a nanny state!

Eh...wot?

So are they making them with a hand saw and chisel like we had to do in jr high shop class or are chisels illegal too?

Router table which never has a guard and can be just as dangerous.

What a nanny state...... mad

Looks like our brethren across the pond will have to use a radial arm saw and make cut , slide board 2mm , make cut , slide board 2mm again and again to make a dado.

Dado blades and guns are illegal but rape, spousal abuse, and killing daughters who shamed the family is basically legal if you belong to the religion of peace.

Can you not buy a suppressor over the counter without any background check or tax stamp over there?

I wonder if you can run a Dado stack in a Saw Stop table saw in Europe? It will be interesting to see what happens when the Saw Stop patent runs out in August of 2021, I could see all production table saws requiring flesh detection sensors in the future. The inventor of the technology (Dr. Steve Gass) is a Patent Attorney, I'm sure he has a lot of patent fences designed into it. He originally made an industry wide push for self-breaking saws and since he had the only one, you could pay him a King's Ransom for the royalty fees.

Do newer EU built table saws have arbors long enough to accept a dado stack?

Eh...wot?

Interesting question. I'm sure you can but the question would be, is it legal to do so.

What about molding head cutters? I'm sure they must be illegal as you can't use a guard. I can't recall though if they will work on a sawstop.

I might have been wrong about my saw accepting dado stacks. When I moved here 11 years ago I brought my 10" Rockwell saw. When I couldn't get anyone to fix my motor I bought a 10" Makita that came from the UK. I never put a dado stack on it. I can buy dado stacks here, like this one...https://www.manomano.fr/p/dado-de-precision-d150x32x1587-z20-ftg-atb-23052006-599724, but you might be right about the arbor length.

My saw is up at the farm so I'll check it out tomorrow.
