Are you talking about the 2-meter ham rigs?

We use them as auxiliary units in my fire department. Way , way cheaper than the standard Motorola units. For one Motorola unit you can buy 10 Baofengs. No where as good as the Motorola radios , but it is better to equip the whole squad then to not being able to afford a $300+ radio for each member.

Very good radios for the price. I've had one for several years , no problems.

This probably isn't going to help you but here it is.As a ham operator(Kd8wfl)I've never played with them. But a good friend of mine has,and he told me for the money its the way to go.He said they could make a whole new generation of hams, who hesitated about getting into ham because of the price won't hesitate when they see these. He told me you get what you pay for,but they work well for the money invested.I know he sure liked his, talked about it alot.

They work great. Buy a better antenna and you are good to go.

Dad and I each got one last fall. Seem to work good. I forget the model #, like UV82??? I did buy a longer antenna. Lots of good info on YouTube about them. Easy to program if you play around with it for a while.
