They are talking of cancelling up to 10,000 dollars for students that owe money do to the virus. How bought I go buy a truck that's more than I can afford and they can forgive up to 10 grand of the cost. This is all getting insane.

I read that a few minutes ago. I would prefer they defer the payments until this blows over. I worked my arse off to pay back my 24k loan. Wife graduated with nearly 60k in loans. She was fortunate enough to get a job in her field of study too, unfortunately it was in So IL where she won't make as much as she could else where. She and I built a side business, live within our means, and have been throwing money at our loans/debt. As it sits now, we have her loan paid off in July, roughly 3.5 years from when she graduated. Looks like now, we shouldn't have been so aggressive in paying on her loan. I don't agree with passing the buck, you signed for the loan you should be responsible and pay it off.

Wow, suppose they would give us the $10,000 to make up for the tough time our family had while paying off the wife's loans. If this happens it will tick off a lot of people that were responsible enough to pay off their own student loans.

It's simple using your money to buy votes to get themselves reelected.

when I was in school 23 years ago you borrowed what you needed from the Stanford loans and paid no interest till 6 months after graduation then a modest few percent.

my oldest is accepted to school to become a teacher in the fall and the federal student loans have dried up first they will only give her 2950 then they want the parents to apply for a parent loan at a higher interest rate around 7% only if the parrents are denied this can the student get more of the federal loans , if not start private borrowing.

this seems like they said hey big banks our federal student loans need fixing! how can you restructure the system to insure you make extra profit of the students?

I think a big problem is many kids want the "college experience" and not just the education. There are ways to make college affordable for some that don't have parents with the money to pay up front. They chose to go into big debt when they don't have to...so they can pay back what they borrowed, like everyone else has to.

I agree with Pete, it needs fixed and the way to fix it is to get the Gov out of the education business. It's because of them that the price for tuition is sky high. Then they convinced Academia that all kids need a college degree to gain employment. The small mechanics, wood shop and other programs have been removed from a lot of middle and high schools. If it was back in the day and a kid could work part time during the school year and full time in the summer and have tuition paid for, I'd say heck no, they need to pay it off on their own. But I think if the Gov fixed this mess and paid some or all of the current student loan debt, we'd all be better off. They would instantly become consumers and would boost the economy hugely, imo.

I agree with it. It will help these students who are already in tons of debt and now have no work. Its investing in our growth as a country. More kids that go to college, the better educated they will be, more money they make, more tax money to collect. I hope they do it!!!

How about $20,000 to everyone who graduated and is debt-free. We saved and worked for it.

How about instead of having dumb rich kids buy their way into college,make college free to everyone who can qualify with an 85% avg.Especially for courses that society needs like research doctors etc.No need to keep smart kids out because they cant get credit or have rich parents,or because spots are taken up by the rich dumb kids.
No buying in for rich dummies taking mickey mouse courses so they can put a few letters behind their name on their daddy's companys letterhead.

Stuff was pretty simple when I was a kid. You took a loan and you payed it back. I took a small loan because I felt it would be repaid in my earnings
over the course of my life.
