They are still working on the computer problem. That’s probably why there’s a very high percentage of cats and coyotes that sold. The minimums got messed up

I think most of us understand, but the sale results, specifically averages, often tell little.

There was a very large variety of each species at that sale. I know that’s not unusual, but to my fairly inexperienced eyes, this sale seemed extra diverse. Seeing things like Texas cats next to some of the Idaho & Montana type cats made them look like entirely different species! It seemed the coyotes there really covered the spectrum of grades and quality as well.

Rusty, our pres., mentioned his coyote average was $76, and he said some of them were late caught broken ones. He also mentioned that some good Idaho lots of coyotes averaged close to $100. Those numbers are not too shabby and quite a bit above the sale average of $58.

I didn’t have much there, but the averages for my fur were much better than the overall sale. My cats averaged $339 and that included a very small yearling I was unable to release. Sold four fairly early caught beaver that averaged $12.50 and one was a little small. Sold a few ounces of porky hair that averaged over $22/oz. Heck, I even sold a badger for $75! Granted, he was a big, good-looking bugger I skinned taxidermy style, but still that’s pretty darn good I think.

Point is and as the saying goes… you can’t judge a book by its cover. Yes, the current situation impacted that sale and the market is down, but there’s more to the story.
