So, anyone going out on opening day ?

Ours opens the 18 , should be interesting this year ,
the bridges and easy access can get downright crowded ,
on top of that this year they didn't allow volunteers to help stock
so all the fish are at those same bridges and easy access points .
I usually fish the first day on an un stocked but loaded stream
that I have to myself , so I'll be out .

4th Saturday in April here.....don’t know if any stocking is going on. But we can fish for lake trout and Salmon April 1st...providing the ice is out....

Just curious why a season we fish them here all year long in the west.

Open year round here except for a few select waters. We fish when we want.

You also have better waterways with natural reproducing trout and way less people after them then we do here.

Many years ago when I was young, I asked a fisheries person why they closed the season on trout for a month each year, the answer was obvious once he told me- an opening day is a big deal with people buying permits and going to stand elbow to elbow just for that one day. He told me they estimated that with no Opening Day the permit sales would decline by about 60%. He further told me that same 60% would not fish more than six days on average per year and so would take very few fish out of the system.
Short story Opening Day of any season is a big revenue source. They send out press releases and do short TV announcements and sell lots more permits.

In our Trout Parks season opened Mar 1.

been fishin the Genesee for 2 weeks now,the 2 yr olds are nice this year.

Are they still gonna stock the kiddy pools?

the hatchery workers are on 7-12's stocking with the fish and bunny police.no helpers.southern half opener closed till the northern opener.

In the east, at least PA, most of the stocked trout are fished out by mid June. One thing nice about the west, you can have the same chances all summer and into the Fall. Pennsylvania use to stock a few select streams in October but I think they stopped it.

Don't really care if he does. I'll still be fishing regardless
