NAVY TIMES

The Navy is preparing to evacuate thousands of sailors off of the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt within days to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly.

“We already have nearly 1,000 personnel off the ship right now,” Modly told reporters Wednesday.

"In the next couple days, we expect to have about 2,700 of them off the ship. One thing I want to emphasize as well is that we cannot and will not remove all the sailors from the ship.”

The decision to evacuate the sailors follows a plea from the commanding officer of the Roosevelt for the Navy to remove sailors from the ship and place them in individual quarantine spaces.

One would think that an O-6 in the Navy would be able to master communication security that every private should have been trained in.

I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. O Lord please don't let me be misunderstood.

Never served in the Navy but ay commander has two missions that of his command and care for his personnel. I applaud his concern for their health however by disclosure on open channels he compromised his command. He was removed for cause.

I think they docked in Da Nang before the cases showed up. My buddy is a lieutenant in the navy reserve and they sent him to Thailand for a joint exercise in February-March and he said no one wore any type of ppe.....

I could not believe they held that exercise.....and I would think it would be e-z to keep kung flu off a naval vessel. Just stay @ sea and no one comes aboard.

Considering it's an aircraft carrier, they have aircraft taking off and landing quite frequently throughout a given 24 hour period. Also, theze warships conduct unreps every week or less. Either of these activities could have carried the virus onto the carrier from elsewhere.
