A lot of businesses are going to go under, I'm afraid. The government will only be able to mitigate part of the damage.

But other businesses will arise and even flourish. Here are a couple that occur to me:

- Big banks (they always benefit, you notice?). People will run up their credit cards to stay afloat, and wind up paying the banks' predatory interest rates. So it may be a good time to invest in financial stocks.

- Law firms, especially big ones, as suit after suit is filed to apportion some of the losses arising from the pandemic. Law firms can't be publicly traded, so I don't see much investment opportunity here.

Any other businesses you can think of that will benefit?

Jim

Cable companies are going gangbuster trying to keep up with demand for everyone "working from home".

Delivery business will do well during and after I do believe. There will be even a greater shift to online purchasing and social networking. Think of the millions who had never used this until now and will probably continue at limited to extensive usage.

I disagree with part of that. Banks are going to have a tough time IMO.

Yes people will be running up credit cards but many of them will default. Banks will suffer some from that but the real hard thing for banks to overcome will be the narrow spread on interest rates. Their cost of money is very low right now but so are the long term rates at which they will be lending. They can borrow at maybe a half percent and lend long term at maybe 3.5%. That is not enough of a spread to make their earnings anything special. Remember in the old days they could borrow at 2-3% and lend at 7-9%

But I agree about the credit/debit cards. So invest in the companies that get paid for processing the transactions Visa, Mastercard. They don't take any of the risk as far as loaning to consumers for transactions but they take a bite of every transaction made with a card.

Also, the federal government will begin to debate a 'digital dollar' soon. A system like that would facilitate the current stimulus in getting "money" into citizens hands without processing paper checks for thousands of people with no bank account. So again, I would look at companies with the digital architecture already in place to process fund transfers. Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, and maybe some tech/security companies like Okta.

That is just my opinion. You are responsible for your own due diligence

I would also say look at Alibaba in China. They are the equivalent of Amazon in the USA with a LOT bigger market and they are already into banking and finance as well as online marketing.

People selling chickens and quail for laying and meat rabbits, especially does, are doing well.

Firearms and ammunition sellers are doing well.

I also think many individuals and companies are going to find that they can do just fine with employees working from home. Especially with the advent of 5G. That could impact entire transportation systems as well as create vacancies in commercial real estate. LOTS of changes coming

Big government and the Fed will benefit the most.

Guys who clean up foreclosure homes are going to get busy like they were int 2008, 09 and 10.

Gold mining is going to be profitable.

Snap on is going to benefit because people can't buy new cars. So people have to get their cars fixed somehow. This idea is not original with me.

Look at a gold price chart and see what the price of gold did after the last stimulus; it sky-rocketed. Certain tangible things like gold and real estate might be considered if you think what they are doing is inflationary. I don't know how it can't be inflationary, their only hope is to print our way out of this 6 trillion dollars they are forking out.

I am going to agree with Bryce on this one. We had our first order from Aldi's delivered today. It was done by Insta Cart. We made a list online and paid with our debit card. Got notice that the 'shopper" was starting at around 4:00. Then got a message that he was in transit. 15 minutes later he was in our drive hauling bags to our front door. Cheap as can be for the delivery too so we left the guy a $10 tip for the $125 order. Sprayed most everything with alcohol on the front step and then brought it all in and put it away. Everything we ordered was there ...except the dang chip dip which was not in stock.

With my wife's health issues and my disdain for shopping this certainly is not going to be the last time.
