I have sentery safes and as mentioned above they are really just glorified cabinets. Watched a couple videos sometime back on how easy they are to crack and I don’t mean the combo. Two guys knock it over and take turns with two 6ft pry bars. One in an pry next in and pry they had that door popped open in less than 5 minutes. I have turned to other ways....out of sight out of mind.

i think all the weight is in the drywall. I have looked and think i only found a non fire rated sentry before that was more substantial than the cheap cabinets i can toss over my shoulder. Ive read that in a fire, your guns might stay protected from the heat but when the safe falls through the floor or the floor falls on your safe and the fire dept dumps thousands of gallons of water onto your house the basement floods and the guns are screwed anyway. Maybe its just better to have a good insurance policy or if you have some real high dollar stuff, its worth it to build a safe room with a vault door. Itll double as a storm shelter where you can hide from the covid, or possibly Grabboids.

Be careful about putting a gun safe in a basement.
Statistically a the chance of a fire is way less than the chances of water getting deep in your basement. An NFIP policy does not cover your personal property located in any room below grade. If you have a sump pump and have purchased the endorsement to go with it, the damage to the furnace, electrical control panels, etc will eat up the coverage limit and not give you 1 red cent for the safe or the guns inside of it.

Gauge?? I’ll have to look again but I’m nearly sure my sentry is 1/4 maybe 3/16...not sure I’d buy any safe built from sheet metal.
