Costco has a deal going for a Cannon Executive 72 gun safe for $699 and was wondering the quality on this safe. Anybody familiar with it?

Seems like a good price compared to tractor supply prices. Id be around 1200 lbs on my stairs with me and a buddy and a dolly to get that to my basement. Id say at minumum id wanna brace the stairs?? That doesnt even include gettin it into the house, which i have to go up to do. Always wondered how people did it and how nervous they were while doin it. Would probably beat my tin cabinets i have now.

I have a Liberty now but just not big enough anymore. Seems like a good buy. Was kinda wondering about metal thickness. Have the price of what I paid for the Liberty.

There is a discount place near me that had these for I think $569 . They seemed well made , but the metal was pretty light duty(you could push in on the sides of it) For the size the price aint bad and its better than nothing. If someone knows what they are doing a safe can be broke into pretty quick. Fire rating would be another thing to look into.

You get what you pay for with most gun safes. Good quality doesn't come cheap. It's likely a glorified locking gun cabinet, but if someone wants to get in, likely wouldn't take much time at all. Better than a gun rack though. Gotta keep in mind there isnt an industry accepted rating for safes, so if they want to increase the time of the fire rating, they can just decrease the temperature.

I have sentery safes and as mentioned above they are really just glorified cabinets. Watched a couple videos sometime back on how easy they are to crack and I don’t mean the combo. Two guys knock it over and take turns with two 6ft pry bars. One in an pry next in and pry they had that door popped open in less than 5 minutes. I have turned to other ways....out of sight out of mind.

i think all the weight is in the drywall. I have looked and think i only found a non fire rated sentry before that was more substantial than the cheap cabinets i can toss over my shoulder. Ive read that in a fire, your guns might stay protected from the heat but when the safe falls through the floor or the floor falls on your safe and the fire dept dumps thousands of gallons of water onto your house the basement floods and the guns are screwed anyway. Maybe its just better to have a good insurance policy or if you have some real high dollar stuff, its worth it to build a safe room with a vault door. Itll double as a storm shelter where you can hide from the covid, or possibly Grabboids.

Be careful about putting a gun safe in a basement.

Statistically a the chance of a fire is way less than the chances of water getting deep in your basement. An NFIP policy does not cover your personal property located in any room below grade. If you have a sump pump and have purchased the endorsement to go with it, the damage to the furnace, electrical control panels, etc will eat up the coverage limit and not give you 1 red cent for the safe or the guns inside of it.

That safe is 700 pounds according to their specs and the door is 12 gauge and the safe 14 gauge.

Sounds pretty decent to me.

Thanks for the feedback, I need to check the gauge on my Liberty and compare. I think the fire rating is accomplished by more laying of firerock(sheetrock).

Have a Cannon from Costco. Don't get the digital dial though. They can be a pain. The old tumblers are a lot better.

Gauge?? I’ll have to look again but I’m nearly sure my sentry is 1/4 maybe 3/16...not sure I’d buy any safe built from sheet metal.
