Deer steaks we called deer steaks. Cold packed jars were always canned venison. Ground meat was just called burger.

Deer meat but we just call it "dinner" here 2-3 nights a week.

Venison is too many syllables for those south of Mason-Dixon line.

Deer meat in my house. In fact, my son came home with his feelings badly hurt in kindergarten because the teacher told the class that hamburger came from cows. He argued it came from deer. The teacher even called my wife that night to apologize. In his life he had never eaten beef burger at home.

At 42 he still eats it. We all do.

We ate mostly deer meat as kids. In fact it was not until the 3rd grade in our 1-room school that we got hot lunches and we sure thought the chili and meatloaf tasted different.!

Okay, so technically even bear meat is "venison" since it is meat from a wild animal. But whatever comes out of the freezer is called by it's species, even though I call deer meat venison on occasion.

Any women of mine would be calling it deer meat, lest she be looking for somewhere else to stay.
I do get a kick out of how Canucks call all of us yanks.
