Put up a batch of soap for this year. Poured late last night and popped it all from the molds late tonight. Need to let it cure for a few weeks to harden before use.

Got a bunch of hybrid sunflowers started that are growing too fast. Should have waited a few more weeks. Bought some giants so we will see how big they get.

Made some girly soap and some man sized soap. Going to drill the man size soap after it hardens and put the rope through them.

Probably could catch canines with it. Lots of tallow fat in that batch.

Got another batch of pickled trout started yesterday with some leftover thawed fillets from Easter

what dd you use for oils for the soap?

when my wife was making soap I had to buy a lot of the cheap olive oil.

No oils in my batch of soap just some beef tallow that I had, lye and distilled water. Added some dye from the shop for color and some peach essential oil for fragrance.

I may try the oil on another batch. I have a container of bobcat fat I am rendering now for soap. Then a batch with beaver oil. I have lots of that.

That's cool , the wife was not so interested in rendered animal fat , although I am sure it works well.

she took a class where they used oil.

soap making was her thing although I ended up helping.

I have found that the rendered animal fats make a real creamy texture soap. Good for dry skin. I bet coon fat would make some good creamy soap also.

Grandma use to render hog fat in an old copper kettle outside over a fire stirring with a big old wooden paddle that had holes in the paddle end. She would dip it out an put it in old crock pots with wooden lids to store it after cooling. Then off to the root cellar till she needed some.
