It was ready to get printed when I discovered I needed to have the Beaver and Otter book reprinted. I was down to one box of that book left. I will be heading out next week to go pick that one up. I couldn't afford to have them both done at the same time. I'm hoping to get the new one done by the time of the NTA convention.

Paul writing a book? Why not? He's a good writer and trapper both, a rare combination.

No James, I'm not writing a book. It's a book like On The Line by Charles Dobbins. The bulk of the book will be an article that dad wrote for The Trapper magazine. It was a long article that took four or five issues to cover.

If you are a beaver trapper, you need to get the book, Beaver & Otter Trapping, Open Water Techniques. I found I was only half a beaver trapper until I got the book. You will occasionally run into that "hard to catch beaver". There are techniques in the book that you will make you wonder, "Why didn't I think of that?" I caught quite a few shy beaver because of that book.

I have a number trapping books and videos. They're all good, but Charlie Dobbins are the best.

I remember mid 80s, Clearfield pa, was walking past his table. He had a lot of modified traps which, at that time was something I never did. I asked why a certain trap was blue (I think that was the color anyway) and he said "I caught so many ****** coon in that trap it turned blue". We laughed, and I always stopped at his table at each rondy to at least say hi.

Wondering if the 'rona messed up publication release and whatnot for the new book or if it's still a go for sometime in the near future?

Thanks!

" And this is what will happen" In Charles Dobbins video, " Dirt Hole and it's Variations" Mr Dobbins would state something close to those words just before he fired a trap showing you, the viewer ,what would happen when his target animal stepped on the pan. Two major lessons I learned from Mr. Dobbins. 1- I use two sets of equipment, one for constructing new sets and a second for remakes. 2- A properly adjusted trap does not need a screen pan or underall type of products. Do I know big number trappers that have used only one set of equipment successfully their whole careers? Absolutely Same applys to the use of screen covers and insulation etc. under your pans. Listen to Mr. Dobbins teachings and you will take away food for thought. If I am in ultra dry sugar sand or heavy rains are due, I use pan protection. If space is limited, I only use one set of equipment. These comments are not intended to tell you what I do, but rather what I learned from Charles Dobbins. If you do not own the above video, you should. As I mentioned at the start of this thread, Charles Dobbins will be talking directly to you in his video. I can only imagine the respect and admiration Paul holds for his father. Like father like son, write your book or whatever you care to call it Paul, it's in you.

I have several videos and books of Mr. Dobbins'. I got a lot out of all of them, but I got the most out of catching those bodygrip-shy, trap-shy beaver tricks he used. So often I'd read something and think, "Why didn't I think of that?"

He was an amazing man and greatly missed by the trapping community.

It's at the printers right now. I hope to have it in hand soon.

I would have had it done sooner, except I had to have the beaver and otter book reprinted and that ate up my book fund. When there are that many books to try to keep in stock, it makes for a lot of reprints.

That's the book I learned a lot of tricks from your dad on how to catch that trap-shy beaver with a TRAP! Every trapper should own it.
