Stinkypete I appreciate what you do and I also appreciate the fact your wife and you value human life. What I find concerning is that people believe that you can't be concerned regarding money, jobs, and still value human life. I'm not sure how old you are and I don't honestly care to know. My grandfather lived through the Great Depression and he rarely talks about it. When he does speak about it I listen and it sounded like a horrible time in his life and for those around him from what he remembers. The level of despair and overall struggle for human existence during that time can't be ignored if you indeed value human life. The U.S. Government cannot simply keep handing out money and not expect something of this level to occur.

17 years ago my grandfather gave me probably the best birthday present a young man could ask for. At the time it didn't seem like much of anything but I've kept it all these years and it still rings true today. In a simple vanilla envelope he sent me a new testament with 91st psalm bookmarked, a pair of dice, and a silver dollar.

"In World War II the theory was if you read the 91st Psalm you would survive the war and get home and have a long life (for me so far so good.) (So I offer it to you with the wish that it will bring you long life and much happiness). A pair of dice, for some reason I always carried a set in my briefcase with the #7 up feeling it gave me good luck. So I hope this set will bring you good luck. A silver dollar, the thought of this is that it will always be worth something, and you might want some silver and gold in your portfolio."

I don't necessarily worry about money or jobs for the materialistic component. What I worry is that the media has closed down an entire country for a virus that so far has not lived up to the wide spread pandemic that was supposed to occur. While doing this they have crippled an economy and the health of millions of people is at stake. If that makes me an "idiot that don't follow rules," I'll join that club. I value human life as well but I'm looking at this on a global level not one demographic of a population.

I don't think it matters what I do in healthcare I can assure you I am right in the thick of it and have the task of leading a number of healthcare workers that are concerned for their families' human lives. I can say I experience the entire life spectrum and get a full view of human life. During a shift I am at every delivery when a new human is brought into this world, I scoop the snow off the helicopter pad at 2 a.m. so a person can be flown off to save their life, and I am present at every code often watching life leave the human body during my shift. I signed up for what I do and I love every second of it. I don't need recognition and honestly I don't think I need to be in healthcare to see that the risk of damage to human lives is far greater due to an economic fall out rather than what this virus will do.

There's some fools out there wanting to shut down air conditioning as a means of slowing down the virus.

I've only seen muskrat houses/huts one time in my life. About half a dozen of them. That was back in the 1980's when I was just beginning the obsession. I imagine it is a sight seeing a marsh filled with huts.

I don't know if I was callous or practical when I suggest that a human life may not be worth 2 million or more dollars in printed money per life saved? From the beginning we knew from the chinese studies that this disease would kill 10% of a certain segment of the population that gets it. This segment should have been warned and facilated their self isolation. This is what we will end up doing in the end as the practical solution now anyway since the panic" shut it all down" over reaction.

Then again, maybe we will continue to engage in nonsense since I am firmly convinced that we live in an Idiocracy. frown

I think the government has hyped this and has no easy exit strategy that allows them to save face.

I don't think anybody here under values life, we just look at it from different perspectives. I have family members and friends at risk like everyone else. I've buried too many friends in the past year, some fresh on the mind yet. I still say this attempt at a total shut down is wrong and is going to hurt us worse then the corona virus without a shut down would have. If we don't build some herd immunity to this it will be back again and again until wr do have a strong herd immunity.

Thats the problem, saving face. Humiliation isnt the end of the world. They boogered it up, they need to own it and move on.

Isn't it the same government that everyone was worshipping on here such a short time ago?

Not the government, just the results. Nice try.

Whatever gets torn down by this situation will get cast aside or rebuilt. And then someday it will get torn down again. And get rebuilt again. It's the oldest story in the book. We here in this country, now, just happened to have lived through a couple generations where this sort of thing was avoided. Our number is up.

We as a country have a moral obligation to protect those vulnerable. To deny that is to deny the only thing that keeps us from turning into the worst divided war torn nation out there. We have to do it. And then we have to deal with the consequences. That's life.

A lot of this is political football. This is a states rights issue as much as it is federalism and it's the governors decisions on when to lift whatever restrictions they've put in place. Meanwhile, the media beats up Trump.

Nope. The process itself will be worth it. You're either willing to lose everything you have to do the right thing or you're not. One of the only things in your life that's truly black and white.
