2019 BigHorn crew cab 4 x 4. 5.7L Himi. Anyone own one?? If so what ya think? Got an opportunity to pick one up with 18,460 miles on it for $26,659 out the door. Good deal? Closest thing I’ve got experience with is a 4x4 Dacota which I was happy with. But it was a 4.7 mpi not the Himi.

There is no way I would ever own another dodge (ok now ram) pickup with a gasoline engine. The cummins is their selling point. It pulls and it pulls forever while their pickup rots away around it.
I have a 5.7 made right down the road in San Antonio (Tundra)- if you do pull much of a trailer with a gasoline engine I wouldn't go any smaller. If all you haul is some traps and fishing poles I guess it might not matter as much

Thanks for the reply Leftlane. Interesting that it’s motor trend truck of the year.

What uses will your truck do? Look at the half ton deisels my wife loves her cummings Nissan. 18mpg Oh for Christ's sakes, the only friends I have that have the new Nissan pickups will NOT shut up about how much they like them. There might be something to it.

If all you haul is some traps and fishing poles I guess it might not matter as much I agree with this. I had a 96 dodge Laramie SLT 2500 with the V-10. It was a good truck at first but within ten years was falling apart. I had replaced almost every steel component on the frame, some of them twice, brake lines, fuel tank straps and fuel filler neck, spring shackles, exhaust system, etc. The brakes were always crap. I'll never buy another Chrysler product, especially since they are now owned by Fiat. I have an 08 Tundra with the 5.7L. It does everything the Dodge did except the towing cap. is 10,000 lbs. instead of 13.000 lbs. It has 25% more power that the Dodge did and gets about 50% better MPG. It too has rust issues but it's now older than the Dodge was and is in way netter shape (it gets used just as hard as the Dodge did). And, Toyota has offered to replace the rusty frame for me. Nobody from Chrysler ever made such an offer. Dodge did send me a recall about the dash bursting into flames...
Eh...wot?

Thanks for the reply Leftlane. Interesting that it’s motor trend truck of the year. That rating is for advertising. Who care what any vehicles does when it's new. I care what they are like once they have 100,000 miles on them. It all depends on how long you plan to keep it.

Buddy has one we just turkey hunted in it for a week we took his it the first week it seemed solid and had a lot of bells and whistles a guy can do without. Not a Dodge fan owned 2 could not wait to get rid of them.

Be aware if it has the adjustable power air suspension system, they're known to be problematic. I had my 17 for 6 months and had a system failure. $3500 repair bill, fortunately under warrantee. Been an outstanding truck otherwise. My father had that problem.Has to replace a fuse every so often he told me.It will get riding rougher ride wise when it happens.

I have a 5.7 made right down the road in San Antonio (Tundra)- if you do pull much of a trailer with a gasoline engine I wouldn't go any smaller. If all you haul is some traps and fishing poles I guess it might not matter as much I'll disagree from past experience: I've owned the dodge with cummings, the Hemi 5.7 and the Hemi 6.4. I "thought" I might have a pulling issue when went away from the diesel to the gas 5.7 but I didn't. My 20 ft enclosed trailer loaded with traps and freezers went right down the road about as good as the diesel did. The 5.7 Hemi will outpull the capabilities of a 1500 truck no problem. It's a half ton running gear. ( I had it in a 2500 with airbags...that's aftermarket...not the stuff that comes from the factory). Yes, the 6.4 has a little more power, but honestly I don't really need almost 400 hp. Back to the diesel. I owned one and ran it 6 yrs...and compared costs against the gas models. I'll never own another diesel. They are FAR more money to run. Any part (even non engine related) you need for it, is double or 3 times the cost. I suppose they figure if you have enough money for the diesel, you have enough for inflated parts cost. Diesel trucks are also the worlds worst off road vehicles. I've never shoveled, yanked and winched a truck out so much in my life. And those heavy motors will wear out front end parts a lot faster. Diesel trucks are road trucks...period. One thing I would steer clear of with the Rams, however. I hated the 6 speed tranny. It never failed but it its real doggy in auto mode. The 8 speed is a far far better feeling tranny.

Thanks for the replies. I just looked up the truck on nada book as if it were a 2018 ( won’t do 2019 used value, just gives new) and it’s a little more than 2K below trade in if it was a 2018. Clean Carfax and one owner so I’m going to call my bank and getter done.
