Went for a walk today with two of the kids and the dog in a creek a couple blocks from the house. It runs through town, and connects to the river probably a 1/4 mile downstream from where we were. Average depth is probably 4 inches.


We found several good coon trails, both upland trails and water trails.




This one runs from the river up this little ridge to a giant hollow den tree.

All the banks are clawed up from coons.

Kids found lots of clams and frogs.


We broke the law too. They found this old bottle that says something about special law forbids resale or reuse, but we used it anyway

The dog had fun too of course. At first he was terrified of the water, he thought he was going to drown or something. But after I dragged him in a few times ,he realized we wasn't going to die he had a good ol time. Even found a deer hip to chew on.


Kids had a good time, got to explore nature, and nobody caught the coronavirus

Almost forgot... possible bobcat track? Found a whole bunch on a sandbar in the middle of the creek, and I've been told bobcats use this creek as a major travelway.

Thats a canine track-I see a couple nail marks and the toe configurations says canine.You wont see that on a cat track.

Good to know. I wasn't sure if I was seeing claw marks or not, but now that you mention it and I did a little Google searching, the toe pattern is definitely canine.

Looks like a great way to spend a day.

nice work, loosegoose. I love poking around those little shallow creeks this time of year. Going before the weeds are very tall, or the monsoons turn them into raging rivers with mud everywhere is definitely time to go. good places to find artifacts that get washed up. I loved poking around on sand bars and gravel deposits. found lots of arrowheads, shark teeth, petrified bone, you name it we probably found it on little creeks in spring and fall.
way to get the kids out exploring, too. free fun and education for all!
