Well we got a carpenter ant problem, started noticing them in February when it warmed up for a day.... they where all over my laundry room.... laundry room is on the first floor at ground level... I then put raid out but no luck... so I called the local pest guy.... he came out for 270 bucks and sprayed outside and baited in side.... well what ever he put down is working, every day time it warmes up I see them laying all over the floor dead in the laundry rooM. Today was no different, none by noon and tonight I looked in and 29 laid dead on the ground.... I happy there dead but will it ever stop... I bet Iv seen over a thousand dead since the pest guy has been here. The pest people sent me a msd report of the the bait he put down... I ended up buying on line the same stuff.... there was 4 different chemicals.... it was a hundred bucks for it all... should I keep putting the chemicals/bait down... or is there another way of getting rid of them... my house is surrounded by concrete side walk.. I got a feeling there comming In between the side walk and the foundation... then from there i don’t know... I can’t remember the bait/chemical I bought because I let my sister use it and I don’t have in on hand now.. any advice....

Got a wood pile nearby. We moved our wood pile and no longer have an issue. Although ours were never as bad as you’re describing.

Here's the cheap solution to any ant problem, mix equal parts borax and corn syrup and put about a tablespoon on a bunch of small pieces of cardboard along their paths, give it about a week they will all be dead

I’m not saying there not dieing, I was just surprised they keep comming... I guess I thought they would take the bait back to the colony and wipe them out.... this was the house i grew up in... nothings changed.. and we had ants before but nothing like recently

Never had carpenter ants but i have had problems with those little black ants that raid the crumbs and spills in the kitchen. I found a pretty neat concoction made from borax where u mix water, borax, and sugar to make a paste. I put that paste on some cardboard squares and spread it around the house. When the ants find the treats they take it back to their home where the borax kills off the eggs and the colony dies. I think it was 1 part borax to 3 part sugar.

Not sure if it would work on carpenter ants but its a pretty inexpensive experiment and wont hurt to try! Good luck!

carpenter ants need moisture, you might be getting some dampness behind sheetrock

Ive used Terro ant poison from the store. Worked great on the carpenter ants. Last time I had issues in the barn, I made my own using borax and sugar/water mixture. Also worked great, just make sure you dont add too much borax or the ants wont eat it. They fill their belies and take it back to their home base and wipe out their whole herd....good luck

a 2 gallon sprayer will cost you abuot 20 dollars for a decent one
a quart of permithrin concentrate about 15-20 dollars more but it will make several sprayers 15-30 depending on the concentration

spray every 6 weeks you should be set , you can spray it in the house also , I have done it at the wifes office she is on a concrete slab and we think they come up through the cracks in the slab , it gets so bad she will say it is like the carpet is moving , I will spray on friday all the bas boards and some on the carpet and all around the permimiter of the building takes 1-2 gallons and then they are dead by monday

mix like your treating a kennel for the outside of the house or if you will be able to leave the house while it dries inside also.
