Don't worry, there is hope! If you suck at mushroom hunting or it is a dry year and your spots are not producing. Pour a cocktail and ease your mind. Mock mushrooms taste just like big fat yellow sponges and I will tell you how to do it. Crunch up a sleeve and a half of saltine crackers in the sleeve and then dump them in a bowl. Drain as much liquid out of an 8oz. can of mushroom stems and pieces. I pushed the cap down to force the liquid out. Chop them up into small pieces. Add them to the mix. Crack one egg and put it in the bowl. Put in one can of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup. Mix it all up into a gooey mess. Have a helper get the butter going in the skillet, you need a helper because your hands are going to be to messy to do anything. Make a patty and lay it into a 50/50 mix of seasoned flour and regular flour. Flip it over carefully and use the back of your fingers to flatten it a bit in the flour mixture. Carefully pick it up and put it in the skillet. Have your partner fry them like a mushroom and drain on paper towel. Enjoy as you sip your cocktail in amazement!

You do mix the 8oz. drained mushroom pieces and stems in and mix it all together.

I wish I could get out do some hunting, but back won't allow it. If it was on flat ground maybe, but around here it is mostly on hilly and rough terrain. I had some guy I know tell me a while back, that from the rear I look like Tom Oar on Mountain Men, from the way I walk. Ironically we both got the same walk from the same basic way... riding a horse or trying to ride a horse. Of course his was on a bronc and mine was from listening to my wife, when she put me on a green-broke horse with Hackamores. I had never even hear of them before and she didn't tell me. I thought all horse used a bit. Well the horse I guess didn't want me on his back, so he buck up on his back legs and I hung on... then the crazy fool bucked or ducked or what ever it is called... head down back feet up 3 three in a row and I went out of the saddle. I knew I was in trouble when I noticed my right foot was hug in the stirrup. Well, the crazy fool took off running... the first step was on my left leg, which broke it and the horse drug me about 150 yards through a bunch of brambles. Knocked me out cold, shredded a brand new 10X down filled jacket, lost car keys, glasses, hat and don't remember what else. The finally stopped when it got to a 15 yard strip of number 6 gravel we had laid down the day before.
I was completely out, and bloody when she got to me. since I had lost the keys she had to ride the horse about 3/4 of mile to the farm house to get some help. The finally got back and I kept passing out, and they drove me 10 miles to hospital, where I was pretty much there the rest of the night. X-rays showed broken leg, dislocated pelvis, the 4 or 5 lower vertebras was out of place, had a couple of cracked ribs, a concussion and I looked like I had been fighting with a bobcat. The thing that upset me the most was the loss of my 10 X down filled jacket. I had been saving for about 6 months to buy it.
A little over a week later I was on the hay wagon loading hay bales, which I came to regret, as the chaff about filled up the cast I had on my left leg. I finally rigged up tubing to attach to the vacuum cleaner to suck out as much as I could. But now I pay every day of my life with the discomfort from the discs that were damaged and continue to erode away.
Sorry to hi-jack the thread... but this just came out. This lock down has me only talking to someone once or twice a week... so I get to rambling.
And I don't have any rose colored glasses.

Makes sense to me. Morels are literally tasteless, zero nutrition vehicles for butter salt and pepper. I dont know what morels you have eat but the ones I eat are very tasty. Try to saute some, that really brings out the flavor and they are high in vitamin D

That looks good. I will have to try it. You can also cut up Portabella mushrooms and fry them up just like morels. Taste almost identical to morels to me.
