that virus is really bad in NM right now. The way I understand it rabbits 5-8 weeks old or something can survive it. But pretty much wipes out the rest of them.

These rabbits also carry a lethal virus. A virus that makes them lethal to us.

I read about it 2 months ago. That is one of the reason I do not allow outsiders on my farm. Biosecurity is a real concern with livestock. Its so easy to transfer diseases. When I worked for the state raising 40k pheasants for put and take hunts, we had white Tyvek suits and boot covers we had to put on (after we sanitized our boots) before we could enter a poultry house. I raise rabbits, expensive show stock, something like that could be devastating.

serious breeders have long had a quarantine shed for rabbits going to and coming from shows . they have rabbit shed only boots and take it very seriously. no one goes in their rabbit buildings. it isn't just a virus but there are a lot of things that harm and kill rabbits and always have been.

their reputation as a breeder and lively hood is on the line should some disease get their herd new will be around so fast if someone gets one of the many diseases rabbits can get. CNN got nothing on farm wives for fast delivery of news.

These rabbits died of a lethal virus too.

That rabbit virus is a real thing. Wiping out large numbers in NM. Cottontails and jack rabbits both. This is not good. Those desert rabbits are a subspecies. They dont look exactly like jacks and cottontails in west ks or east Co. They can go a long time without a drink of water. I don't know if rabbits from other places can fill the void.
