IMO, the American church is reigned in because it quivers to keep it's tax exempt status. Pay taxes and be done with this yoke!

I've heard a lot of folks talk about taxing churches... Certain factions lick their chops at getting their hands on the coffers of various religious organizations... But it rarely seems to go anywhere.

And in my opinion there is one primary reason it quickly fades...

As soon as you levy taxes you better be prepared to give the taxed a voice/representation in the legislature. That thought terrifies anyone who sees the state as God.
