I need to buy a new tent for this upcoming buck season. Usually it will be for 2 guys, but sometimes 3, I'm leaning towards a 4 person tent, but I could be talked into a 6 person. We typically get hard winds, and we can get 12"+ of snow. I've used the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Model that my cousin bought years ago, and that seemed like a stout tent, but I figured it would be worth it to reach out to you guys, Thanks,

Thanks guys for the info. I love canvas wall tents!! But I'm looking for something smaller that is easier to pack. We usually take 2 pack horses for 2 or 3 people so a wall tent usually takes up too much space, and the "Competitive Edge" tent is an 80 pounder, which is bigger than I would like.
Anybody have some advice for a tent similar in size to the Cabela's Alaskan guide, their 6 person tent weighs 33 pounds, and the 4 person weighs 24 pounds.
Thanks,
Robert Martin

Ive got a cabelas xpg expedition 6. It has been discontinued though. A big dome that looks similar to cabalas's guide model tent. its a great tent. Able to stand easily. I can easily put 2 army cots in it. Weighs about 24lbs. If I weren't going to have to carry it to far id get the guide two vestibules for gear. My son and I stayed in it one night at a Boy Scout event and it rained hard all night. The fly never let any water in. I would definitely look into a cabelas guide tent 6 or 8.

That tent would be very useful in your part of the country--for making into a sauna. Jim

For a hunting tent for two or three people, get a six- or eight-person tent. Sure, you can sleep three people in a three-person tent. But what if the weather is crap and you want a little elbow room, maybe to play cards or read a book? I've got a six-person Cabela's Alaska Guide tent. I'm planning to sell it. The last time I used it the condensation was so bad it rained inside. The other drawbacks to this tent are that it's hard to set up and the poles are fiberglas. If you want one, find one with aluminum poles. I went out and bought a North Face Northstar 6, which has vents in the canopy. https://www.thenorthface.com/shop/northstar-6-nf0a3byb I don't know if they're still making this tent. I haven't used it yet. Jim
