Its a thrill to catch one over 50. Its sure a thrill to pull him out a hole with your hands. That's something you'll never catch me doing, too many other creepy crawlers hanging around where catfish live. I used to wade in golf course ponds to find golf balls and resell them to golfers. I had to deal with snapping turtles and water snakes. I'm older and wiser now.
Eh...wot?

Our Flint River was known for its Red Breast population...until they ended up in the river. Basically wiped them out. I’m guessing they’re all over the US now. I know my son goes to Bama every year with his Boss and they’ll bring back hundreds of pounds of filets mostly made up of Flatheads. Yes, hundreds of pounds, lol. LOL They’re native to much of the US, so yes. They were introduced to a particular river in PA and parts of GA and FL, and caused problems. But in much of the midwest like here in Ohio, they’re just another native catfish species.

my mamma said turtles are the devil right lugnut? Yeah they are!. Back in my wading days (we were kids) my brother sometimes wore sneakers when wading in ponds with high numbers of snappers.. You could find more golf balls buried in the mud bare-footed but he figured that would give him some protection from a bite. I told him a sneaker wasn't going to help at all if one of them giant, mossy-backed devils got ahold of him!
Eh...wot?

But in the next week I will be catching some, they just won't be on the nest real good. When the males are protecting the eggs is when they get mean. I like to catch them when there is a male and female in the hole, you could catch a 100 pound of fish real quick.

I saw that. By the headline I thought were talking about a big one. Maybe I'm jaded but having caught that size and seen many bigger...... Don’t be knocking the bait they catch and are proud of!

It's big for our state.
They don't grow all year round here like they do in the south.
