YES!

My Dad started farming in 1932, in the 'Great Depression'. It was a matter of if you don't work, you don't eat. He put 720 acres of land together, and now I'm the 'Chief Cook and Bottle Washer' President of the family corporation.

If there is no welfare money to spend at the stores who would rebuild a store there.
Those stores made all their money from welfare too.

That's great Chas! I know a ranching family here that was started by a homesteader that lived in a haystack, and the haystack burned down. They're still here, and doing very well. Folks today have no idea what tough is.

I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

I work for social services and you are 100% correct. It is too easy to get on benefits and stay on benefits. Free medical, free food, free heat, section 8 pays the rent and gives a utility allowance. Free cell phones. Meanwhile, they are working under the table and taking their kids on vacation. I've seen more than my fair share in the 11 years in this job. Someday I'm going to write a book about it

The problem with hand outs is I see that they help enable folks, I often see the same folks we arrest on the weekends getting the freebies so the can better budget their drug/booze money.

Maybe in Canada. But, I seriously doubt that here in the US, they didn't make ALL their money from welfare.

No. We should not give it to the business owners, either.

And, we should cut off most welfare to rural areas same as the crummy cities. I'd be surprised if the welfare per capita is any higher in the city than it is in the rural areas.

Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.

Exactly. I've had many people become upset if/when their income goes up and they lose their foodstamps. They have become so dependent on them that they don't know what to do. My favorite line from them is "now I'll have to spend my own money on food". I've even had them threaten to quit their jobs to get them back.

That sounds just like it is in MN. People move here for all the free stuff. And the folks getting all the free stuff have been told by the people forcing the people who are paying for the free stuff that the people paying for the free stuff are mean, prejudiced, and racist. So, the people getting the free stuff don't like the people paying for the free stuff.
