We built Logan a small pontoon this winter and decided to built a shed for it to live in over the winter. I salvaged some 4X4 posts from an old deer stand and decided a sloped roof would keep most of the weather off it.
After we got that up I decided I had a bunch of old windows in the barn. If we threw those in the walls that would help keep a little more weather out.
As long as we went this far I had a bunch of BEAUTIFUL White Cedar lumber that One Eyed Trapper and I sawed a few years back so I may as well use that to seal it up.
After we got it varnished I was told by the Boss that it was way too cute now for a shed. The whole time building this the phrase of "That's close enough. It's just a shed" was in frequent use. Now to try to seal up the 8 foot door and figure out a floor.
If we went this far we may as well insulated the walls, floor and ceiling too. I had some insulation that I just knew would come in handy some day.
My Dad had been "hoarding" some Cedar T&G paneling that him and my grandfather had cut from the home property and sawed years ago. He had been saving it for a special project for years and had given it to me last fall and this seemed like the perfect project to use it on.
The phrase "Close enough. It's just a shed" came to haunt use but we got it up.
Now came the paneling part and trying to hide all of the "round" corners on the "shed". I am too cheap to buy good paneling and we wanted it rustic. I took the old Cedar slabs that had been laying outside for years, peeled the bark and ran them through the table saw. I think they actually look pretty good.
I was short on material for the last wall so I called up my buddy One Eyed Trapper and we did some horse trading for some rough sawn, weathered pine planks and Cedar. The plan was to use the Cedar but after seeing the character of the pine that is what we used. The old planer sure got a work out too!
The last thing I had to make was a door. I wanted a REAL door too, one that is grizzly proof.
As the old saying goes, if Momma is happy the everyone is happy!
