.....W.T.F.?......... The guys they're emulating would have traded the period stuff for a 300 wsm, and bic lighters in two shakes a buffalo's tail.

Yes I have. I shot about a half dozen .595 balls on top of 65 grains of Goex at a hackberry tree at 35 or 40 yards. It wasn't a great group, about the size of my hand... But for just plinking and no rear sights I was surprised. I may try again tomorrow and put some effort into it and see if I can do better.

I don't mind it... But I don't get in a twist over it either.

Some guys will tell you there's no historical provenance for this or that... And I'm like there's no historical provenance about putting your socks on before you put your shoes on either, but we figured it out.

the track of the wolf ball puller , makes an excellent patch worm and an excellent ball puller

https://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/574/1

seems simple enough but he nailed the geometry on this one , working with 4-H muzzle loading I pull more balls in a year than many do in a lifetime a little better when the young lads are sent to load on the other end of the line from the young ladies.

After pulling a ball the puller is generally pretty tightly threaded into the ramrod tip and you may need pliers or a wrench to get it off. If you file a couple of flats at the base of the ball puller you can fabricate a tiny wrench from flat stock that will work quite nicely. You will learn this if you dryball enough. (I have a "friend" that has some experience in that regard.)
