When they loaded railcars with lumber to build a homestead in the west here the material was laid out to fit a whole boxcar, looks like a Lumber Mill Stencil with the date stamp.
Wood borers that size would have been lumber sawn that was a year old.

1863 Civil war time ? State Mo?

In June 1863, Confederate troops marched north into parts of PA, including Harrisburg area and Cumberland Valley areas. Might be worth asking a local civil war historian... Just a thought.

Most of the barns in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia got burned during the Civil War.
