Good morning,

What is everybody's favorite trap-line hatchet? Just curious to see what other brands maybe good. Looking for something that will last long. Currently using the SCAXE-2L and a old boy-scout axe I re-did last summer. I'm looking for recommendations and longevity. Happy Tuesday!

Pretty much any ax will last longer than you, old ax/hatchet heads are everywhere, handles are replaceable, the old boy scout hatchets were good, I think Plumb made them.
You might want to reprofile them depending on what you want it to do but unless your chopping metal or other silly objects even a Harbor Freight chinese axe will probably last long, long time....:)

This one. Not a hatchet but it's thick convex blade might as well be. It's a golok from bark river knives.

That's a nice looking Blade! I like the look to the Axe head on Snow & Nealley.

I still have and use a "Plumb" brand hatchet that I bought new about 1974. Still has the original handle too. Used on the trapline plus split a lot of rib cages of deer and elk also.
I don't know if Plumb is still in business but the Snow and Nealley is well made as is Estwing. I have a 3/4 Estwing axe that I really like. Estwing products have a steel shank and a leather handle which should about last forever. Estwing markets a trappers axe or hatchet, I saw one in the Sheels sporting goods store in Rochester Minnesota recently.

I like a light boys axe head, thin convex blade-like the Iltis or HB axe on a long handle and kept sharp.I use it for gutting and cutting up carcasses and for timber cruising when brush is heavy.
I use the sandvik when the brush is lighter,or just general use which is most of the time, but always have the axe on the bike or snowmachine.

Nice hatchets. I use a gransfors bruks forest axe about 18" long. Not really a hatchet per se, but it works well. I have an older hatchet too, but forgot the name.

I didn't pay nowhere near that. The one in the photo has more bells and whistles than mine.

I prefer a brush axe size, and the one that gets the most use is my Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest axe. the one with the slightly longer handle.

My favorite though is a John Neeman Northlander Forest axe "Stalwort" but it doesn't get much use as it is pretty fancy.

I have a Gransfors Bruks wildlife hatchet that I find pretty handy for hunting and small tasks, but the Scandi Forest axe always goes with me when trapping or winter camping as it is a true workhorse.
