I’m about to buy stakes and out of my choices I’m wanting to see what y’all would pick.
#1 rebar and double stake swivels. What size rebar and how long?
#2 Berkshire disposable stakes
#3 super stakes
What is best? Any help is appreciated!!

Trapping is what built North America, why take that away?

The Berkshire and super stakes can be difficult to remove at the end of the season and also they are more expensive than rebar, that being said they (Berkshire and super stakes) probably hold better but I also think you will also get more years use from rebar.

I think it should depend more on your soil than our opinion.

I used rebar last year, if your soil freezes I found it to be a huge pain in the butt I would go with disposable stakes

Super stakes on chain for me. Get a puller and they come easier that they went in.

If you are working out of a truck and aren't in complete sugar sand, go with the rebar. It will last longer than you will and never need maintenance (unless you bend it). If kept straight, rebar is easier to retrieve than any earth anchor as well. Even in frozen ground, just a tap on the end and twist it out with vise grips.

Yes, I've used them both...and got rid of all my earth anchors.

Varied length in 1/2". Depending on soil types (and this seems to change from area to area), you will use different lengths. In most soil I'd go with 24" stakes. The weird thing about rebar is it's just as easy to retrieve a longer stake than a shorter one (if kept straight). I have rebar from 18" to 5ft....and use them all every year.

Depends on the soil. I've broken many a chain retrieving the super stakes on chain. Although they were the best choice I found for earth anchors...and would use them again in sand.

Rebar is heavy if you have to carry stakes and traps very far. Rebar comes out of rock solid frozen ground much easier than the other two options.a tap and turn with big vice grips, a small pry bar, and they pop right up.
Berks and supers are much lighter to carry (unless attached to a long length of chain) if cables are used, and can be pre-attached to the trap.
If using cable on berks or supers, be sure to make the lengths correctly long enough for your soil.
You will have to buy cable, ferrules to make berks and supers work. Or more chain for supers.
Berks and supers are more expensive than rebar in long run.
Berks and supers require a driver, (rebar works on berks but something pointy on end works better)
I double stake with rebar so I have to carry 2x as many rebar per set.
I make my own rebar stakes...hammer on a nut, no welder needed either. A few 10' lengths of rebar from hardware store is inexpensive and they will last for decades if you store them dry in off season.
Supers are stronger than berks.
I've held a lot of coyotes with all three.
So each has its pros and cons.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I use supers and wolf fangs with 12 inches of 3/32 cable. Both are difficult to get back out of the ground. I don't have a puller, I use a pick-axe and shovel If the ground is Rocky I use the wolf fangs as they are cheaper and leave them in. Have used many again by marking with flaging tape for the next year

I use both cross-staked rebar and berkshire cables. Rebar is harder to drive in, but the cable stakes are much harder to pull out unless you have a strong lever of some kind (I use a pick mattock). I walk much of my line so I thought the cable anchors would reduce carrying weight. But then, I have to carry a driver when setting and a pick-mattock to pull the cable stakes out. That sort of defeats the purpose. If my set is where I can drive right to it, I do like being able to quickly drive in a cable anchor and I find they are fairly easy to pull out with my pick mattock - more so than trying to get ahold of the rebar to pull it out.

I find 3/8" rebar is cheaper, lighter, and easier to drive in. Once it's cross-staked it holds plenty good enough and 1/2" rebar offers no significant advantage.

Also, when I pull cable stakes out of the ground, I usually bend the anchor tabs and have to pound them out straight again before I can re-use them. So, that adds some work, too. Overall, I don't think the cable stakes save me much work over the re-bar.

We started out with rebar, and then moved onto cable Berkshire, then went to cable wolf fangs and are now in the process of getting everything switched over to super stakes. I think the super stakes are what we will stick with. That said I did build a puller first pulling them out which makes that task easy but it’s big and awkward but we trap out of the truck or side by side so it’s not a problem for us

I have used berks and wolf fangs. Play it safe make the cable at least 18" I say 24" for sandy terrain. They won't go through rock. Some of my line can be sand and granite so rebar won't work. I'll turn the stakes into tie-offs in the the granite area and connect with a quick link.

I use option #1.

My preference is 18" # 5 rebar (5/8" dia.) with a nut welded on top. I used to single stake on my home line for red fox but had to go to double stakes when the coyote started showing up. I trap out of my truck so weight is not an issue.

Some of the areas I trap are rocky, lots of tractor lanes have rocks purposefully added. I've bent the # 5 rebar stakes in an S and always have a bent pile at the end of each season. I beat them back into shape at the anvil and put them back in service. They are very durable.

Eh...wot?

I've seen guys use long cable or chain, and just attach to a nearby tree (if available, of course). Can keep them out of your set that way, not fool proof though.

Super stakes for coyotes, berks for snares in the open areas, and no rebar... not since 1984.
