Not trying to highjack Mason Mayer's thread on favorite wild game, however in the past few years bull frogs have made their way to Utah. The fish and game has listed them as invasive, no season, no limit. Last fall while trapping muskrats, I found a place infested with them. What do you folks think about frogs. I think I'll give them a try. I figure You Tube is loaded with cleaning and dressing instructions and cooking methods. They were just sitting on the bank warming in the sun. I think I could kill a boat load of them with a pellet gun. How do you guys get them?

Saw a couple bigguns last weekend hiking with my wife and daughter. Pic doesn't do it justice, but it was one of the biggest wild frogs I've seen that was healthy.

Then last fall while trapping I found this one, obviously suffering from some sort of ailment. 20 oz soda bottle for reference.

Gigging them is the best way I know to harvest them but catching them on a small rooster tail is a lot of run.

Oh, and they eat very well. The best pace to clean them is a bathtub but do it when your wife isn't home. Don't ask me how I know...

Spear em up, clean em up, eat um up. Invasive? Always thought that they were a global indicator of a healthy eco-system.

A trout fly dangled in front of their face is a lot of fun. When the trout aren't biting, we go frog jigging. A red fly is a good color

Bare treble hook if I'm on the bank. Snag em under the jaw. I run lines in a big creek here a lot. If I'm in the boat I use a 22. Knocks em up on the bank. Nose up, grab em, go find another one. Split the skin around their hips, peel the legs with pliers and fry em up. Season opens Tuesday at sunset here, I'm looking forward to it

It doesn't matter what you dangle or drag in front of them. If they think they can fit it in their mouth, they're going to jump on it.

I used to freeze the legs is a solution of water and lemon juice. Delicious.

If you shoot them, do it from a coat so the frog will flip over onto its back. If not, their reflex will cause them to jump into the water.

On your first trip you will get the dumb ones. Next trips will be harder. Use a very bright light.

It's how my father introduced me to the outdoors when I was 6-7... many fond memories of hearing that infamous "jug-o-rum" coming from the darkness 1/4-mile up ahead on a moonlit night in some back-country ditch floating along in a 10-foot jon boat.

As kids at the cabin we used to get a good pile by going out in the canoe on the lake in the lily pads on a sunny day,guy in front with a stick whack em,guy in back manoevering the canoe pick em up.
Nothing like a mess of frog legs twitching in a fry pan of butter.

I just got a big bore blowgun in the mail Wednesday and I'm hoping to make it my new frog getter. I've used gigs, 22, fishing poles and bowfishing equipment. All of them will work to varying degrees. Never frogged out of a boat always from the bank but love doing it just the same.
