Got rolling today after a half day start last week and a 4” rain (by the way seems like we never get rain) Dad, younger brother and some of my boys are in the field. I’m up to my ears in irrigating Pray everyone in the field has a safe harvest. Funny how I didn’t worry so much 10 years ago. Darn kids anyway.lol I spent my afternoon by myself pulling a irrigation well.

Have a safe harvest Pawnee. Send that rain West across the border, we could.sure use it across most of the eastern plains of CO. In another week we'll be elbow deep in wheat harvest too. Looks.like they're going pretty good in southeast CO now but we're a bit later up north. Good luck!

Nice country. Hope to visit it one day. That's good, honest work.

Both quail and pheasant seem to have had good hatch’s. No bad hail storms yet so we should have a good bird season

Wheat is real close around here. A few may go this weekend, but next week will see it happen around here. Turn big wheels in big fields.

Thanks Pawnee! That is good news. The last 2 years have been rough on our quail population in this part of Kansas.

Kansas cat the boys should be cutting wheat against good cover today. That will give me a real good idea of how good the hatch was. I’ll let you know what they say.

Able to double crop soybeans after any wheat in your area? Neighbor farmer here is trying a 73 day corn behind some wheat , got it planted last Thursday. Interesting to see how he makes out.

Get r dun and good luck with harvest. Been hay time in NC, got 8 fields baled today. Do yall have a market for wheat straw in your area? A lot more is being left in windrows to be square baled around here this year. Saw a bale bandit today gathering small squares in bricks and loaded on goosenecks with a big skid steer. I guess all the straw is used on road projects and subdivisions around here, farmland is disappearing quick. Growing houses.

People in the northern states still trying to combine corn from last year yet. Been to wet to get and was to wet to plant this spring. You are fortunate to be able to do that.

Jomibru, we have planted quite a bit of short season corn. When it is planted late, in our experience, the yield suffers. It really needs heat and moisture to yield. I would be very interested to hear about anyone else's experience.

My dad used to have a harvest crew. I went in the early eighties, then married life took over. We ran 4 combines and partnered up with a guy from SD that ran 2 combines. There were days that we would cut 800 acres, if everything stayed running. I have very fond memories of that time and met some really good people. I remember 1 crew that ran 10 combines with all women operators, all men driving the trucks. Good luck and stay safe.

No, it’s to dry here for double crop dry land corn. We can barely raise continuous crop wheat here. If you get lucky you can raise feed behind wheat but it’s a once every three to five year deal. Here’s a pic of wheat that is planted on ground that had corn on it last year. It finally got rain in May. Fields like this are making 17-23bu/ac. Big money makers lol
