The place we take our sap for processing, cooked 57,000 gallons of sap and got 1590 gallons of syrup or an average of 35.8 gallons of sap per gallon of syrup. That domes out to an average sugar content of 2.4%. The 9189 gallons of sap we brought in averaged 2.73%. Last year was a much lower year in gallons of sap but the sugar content averaged higher.
Bryce Is the 1,590 gallons before or after filtering? I know when we run ours through the filter press, we lose a little syrup. So that would throw off the actual sugar content, but be an accurate equation for determining the gallons of sap needed to make a gallon of syrup with that same particular filtering process.

The land owners I trap for have halfe of there new operation going this spring .test runs went well. Next year the hole operation will be completed. They are anticipating 100000 gallons of sap per day flowing in to the sap house. They have 2 evaporator able to produce 750 gallons of syrup combined per hour. I have to go and get a few pics of this monster operation and post them. I have only seen the building from the road. WOW! Please get some pics!!!

The place I have a camp lease on is almost finished putting in 160,000 taps. sap lines everywhere . Two three inch and two inch and half lines up over every river bed and one inch lines up the mountains from those. they ten 7500 gal storage tanks for after they run it through the RO. Then they truck all the sap to Dover Plains NY and boil it. They tapped 4300 acres in Sandgate VT. The place is a deer desert only saw two deer last year first week of the November rifle season. The area was filthy with bears six of us were at camp and we got three bears . A total of nine bears where sot in the town Sandgate last year.
The bitterness of poor quality last a lot longer than the sweetness of low price
