Not much experience with summer beaver here ! It is now my duty to thin some now . Will they be susceptible to castor mounds now ?

If done right yes. Making your set at an existing mound that marks the colony boundary will get you the best results. These mounds are usually very noticeable as beaver from both colonys will overmark them, especially after a rain. You can make a fake one also like BC Tomcat said with castor from strange beaver not from the target colony.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Thank you both ! I do have foreign castor though it is 4 yrs old and sealed in a jar . I think I mixed it with glycerin ,it is in balls about the size of marbles. Should I try to thin this into a paste with Vaseline or more glycerin ? I have more in a freezer but it is buried under lots of other bait and would need to thaw out the whole freezer .

I would use it just as it is unless it's very dry and not putting out a lot of smell. If that's the situation I would add more glycerin to make it pasty and put out more oder.

Sac oil could be used Instead of castor with pretty much the same results. In fact there are times when sac oil will be the better choice.

It's non territorial and I think that's a plus when trapping In the summer. It's also a good change up while using castor on a location.

What a wonderful cold rainy windy day to fall in the lake (almost to the neck ) as I was getting the drownder sack out further ! Oh My what fun ! I think my hip boots probably had some mud in them that needed to be washed out ! Nearing 71 years and getting very clumsy .
