So is it casino security that watches all or is it Vegas police? Almost everybody who works in Vegas watches out for people. The police, casino security including hundreds of people watching through video cameras, the Mafia and just hotel and restaurant workers all keep an eye on things. For a major US city, Las Vegas is a very safe place. Keith

My wife likes to watch Vegas ER and there are shootings and stabbings that show up at the hospital. But, compared to other large cities, it's pretty safe.

Vegas ER huh... Its on TV so it must be true. My guess is the mafia keeps it the safest. Is there a TV show for that?

Don't stray even a block away from the bright lights. It's a whole different world. This ^^^^^^^ Most of the folks in prison in Nevada spent the weekend in Vegas doing dumb stuff. They come from California to buy sell drugs and women and get caught

Well, since I was born here, and since I've lived here the last 32 years, I guess I have a leg up on some folks as to what life in Vegas is like.
First, there are at least three "levels" or parts of Las Vegas: 1. The Casino district. I don't know much about this part of town. I don't gamble and I avoid that area like the plague that it is . . . mostly because its full of tourists, you know, YOU FOLKS!! :-)
2. The area surrounding the casino resort, is sort of a corridor for homeless, downtrodden, and inner city folks. This is where most of the drugs/illegal prostitution/crime/violence takes place. The casinos all have their own security, and they have cameras everywhere to avoid folks taking their own money, and as a defense to tourists who want to sue them for every trip, slip, fall, inconvenience, etc they suffer. You know, YOU FOLKS!!! :-) The casinos generally hire retiring upper level police officers to head their security, and they keep most of the local riff raff away from their premises, so they hang out in the periphery of the resort district.
3. The suburbs. This is the residential area and comprises 90% of the Las Vegas landscape. If you got dropped in the middle of the 'burbs, you wouldn't know it was Las Vegas. I'd like to think its like most large cities . . . it has its share of terrific people, crime, bad guys and thugs. But they aren't organized or clever enough to be part of some underworld crime force. They are just your ordinary, run of the mill folks. I feel very comfortable in my neighborhood. I know most of the folks in my subdivision and they know me. I'm the guy who wanders around the neighborhood in the early morning hours with my pellet gun, removing the pigeons that have taken up unwanted residence in my neighbors' eves, overhangs and sheds. We have a semi annual block party where we block off the entrance to our neighborhood, cook hot dogs and hamburgers, and discuss concerns in the area (which generally turns into a movement to overtake the oppressive HOA and how to kill more pigeons).
That's life in Vegas, Baby.

Las Vegas is an amazingly safe place. On the show Scam City, Las Vegas was the only city the host could not get victimized in. Big money keeps Vegas safe. It's more profitable to legally take from tourists than to illegally take from tourists. Illegally taking from tourists would lower the amount taken in, so it's not allowed.
Keith Apparently the "host" never went off the strip. I got routed to an off the strip hotel once at night and was glad I was armed. I literally walked back to the strip with my pistol in my hand.
