I just straightened three 10' drowning cables of 3/32" diameter that were all tangled up.

I just sat and listened to the radio while I did it and it worked.

Now, people told me they were junk after they got tangled up but is this the case? Did I weaken the cable too much? I don't think so.

Anyone else do this on a regular basis? Seems like a waste of expensive cable if you don't, especially soon when I have no idea if the boat from Korea that makes the cable will come in or not.

I don't mind twisted up cables. True kinks I think you're flirting with weak spots. For 1.20 I'm just making new sliders...

I cut up bent cable to use in shorter projects.

If it is kinked it is gone. I scrap it unless there is enough straight cable to use for a shorter project like 330 said.

It seems to me If you can straiten out the kink you should be good to go. How much strain Is placed on a drowning cable?
As long as the lock will slide past the straitened section I believe you should be good to go.

I have straightened some that really nasty. If they can't be brought back to Safe drowner quality, I do the best I can and then use them for extension cables on snares for tangle lines. Any real bad kinks... cut them out, loop the ends and use for extensions.

My definition of kinked herein would be: twisted.

Not 90 degree bent or anything.

I'm just saying I fixed 30' of twisted up cable and wondered if anyone else did that and reused it for drowning cable.

Just with my hands but I decided to actually do it so it took 15 minutes or so. Seemed to work.

Yes good point. This is the confirmation I was looking for. It's not that much strain in the first place, and it's in the water. Well I saved 30' of cable then I think. smile

on a downer your not really asking them to hold any more that the weight of your drowning weight which should be much less than the capability of the cable

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
