As fine as you want. Generally the finer the sand the less wax you will need to use and the easier it is for the sand to absorb it.

Apparently we have good clean sand. Have never sifted it, just dry and add wax.

As I understand it, the reason waxed sand takes less wax than dirt is because sand particals do not absorb the wax but are coated by the wax. Larger particals would have less surface area to coat than more smaller particals.

I actually bought my sand this year. 50# bags of "Quickrete" coarse sand=$3.65 each.
It is completely dry and ready to go. Saves a LOT of time, no sifting and drying. Worked great for me. Will probably do this every year.


When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.
