I did my annual speed dipping routine today, and thought I'd share.my process step by step.
1. Power wash all your traps to get the crud off, and get them all adjusted and such. (No pics, adjustments.are a whole different arena) Put a nail in between the jaws of the traps so they get coated.
2. This is the most important step. Procure yourself some helpers. Dipping can be messy, but they love it, and it's part of passing down the tradition.
3. Get everything laid out in a somewhat orderly fashion, including wherever you plan to hang them. Get yourself some wire "dippers" for handling the traps so you don't have to get it all over your hands.
4. Mix up your dip. This is the second most important part. I did about a 1/3-1/2 of a can dip to 2 gallons of gas,so about a 4:1-6:1 ratio. Doesn't need to be exact, but needs to be thinner than the directions state. Use gas without ethanol. Also make sure to use a container that's narrow enough to make the level fairly deep, but wide enough to fit your traps.
5. Start dipping. Using your dippers, dip the traps, flip them around with the dippers if needed to get completel coverage. Take em out and give.them a little jiggle to get rid of the excess. Chains and body grip stands and everything get dipped. I have to use an old paintbrush to do my 330, but everything else, Including Bridger #5 coilsprings, fits inside my bucket.
6. Hang em up to dry. I just ran some screws into the playset for this.
All done!!! Put a lid on your bucket of dip/gas mix and it'll still be ready to go next year. Once everything is dry in a day or two, touch up the night latches with a file if you use them, and your all set to slay some coons.
