Hey Y'all,

I have never had to fool with skunks before. Not too many in my area. I just found out that three skunks have been living under my garage in an old groundhog den.

I need to get rid of them, but would like to avoid stinking up the area. Would you recommend shooting them? I heard a heart/lung shot is best. I also ordered an ADC skunk tube trap. Supposedly it won't allow the skunk to lift its tail to spray.

I would appreciate your input.

Thanks!

I don't know what the percentages are thought to be but shooting them hasn't been kind to me regardless of heart vs. head shots. They're easy to cage trap just set where you can easily drape a sheet over the cage for transport.

Haven't you run across them while trapping?

Don't shoot them if you help it. Most times even with a perfect textbook shot , they will still spray.

Tube trap is a good way to go.

While the tube trap will work, skunks DO NOT have to lift tail to spray. Post on the ADC forum for more info.

Skunks Under Garage--Removal Tips

It might be easier to get rid of the skunks than moving the garage, lol!

I have never ran into a skunk while trapping. Like I said, there just aren't too many in my area. I did order a skunk dispatch pole, maybe I'll try that with a dog proof trap.

Had an uncle who filled in the hole, the skunks must of unloaded before they expired. They spent thousands to try to have the smell diluted from their house, to no avail, in the end they had to move out of their house for the summer. So don't do that, that is the worst method, anything after that should be a step up.

I would buy one or 2 of these "Spray Proof Skunk Trap" personally. Good luck!

Our skunk numbers are thin and localized. You might have one area with a good number of them but then have to go two counties over to find more of them.

any cage trap will work if you can legally relocate them, just cover with a pc of tarp or blanket
SPEAK SOFTLY when covering them, so they are not alarmed
if they start PATTING THEIR FRONT FEET, or start to do a hand stand, WATCH OUT, and slow down and back away for a minute till they calm down
They take truck rides just find, just secure the cage so it won't slide around, then HAVE A LIL STICK PRE MADE that you will prop the door up with until they come out
might be 10 seconds or 10 minutes

Skunks (and all RVS) cannot be relocated in Georgia.

Bungee cords work on holding the door open. And the reluctant ones can be tipped out if you're careful.

I've always caught any I wanted in a cage trap.
5-6 in my life. They cage trap easily.
Slow and no threatening moves will allow you to tarp .
I relocate to a distant area of the property and then dispatch.
I'm sure someone has PM'd a dispatch message to you by now.
But if not, holler.

I have heard that waiting till they are OUT of the den, then pouring a bunch of amonium down the hole will keep them out, the amonium burns their nose so they relocate, but I've never tried it.
