One of the coolest snakes that I know of. Very common over a large area in western US, but not often seen, as they are largely nocturnal or crepuscular. Live to a ripe old age of 40 or 50 years. Very docile. Head and tail look very similar. These are pictures of three different snakes. One in the middle is a young-of-the-year. Other two are big adults.

Cool find and nice pics. What a beautiful looking boa. Didn't know that they could live that long.

What a catch ! How cool ! And- not fair , I need to find one ! I'm happy you found that lovely specimen...I bet he loved the warmth from your hand. How well he matches the stone colour. Thank you, Jack, for the share . It is inspiring for me !

They do exist! LOL
I haven't been paying attention. I didn't think a rubber boa was a real snake. I thought it was some sort of inside joke between Sharon and Gulo.
Very cool looking.
Eh...wot?

Lugnut, yes they are real. I haven't seen one myself but have enjoyed videos of others finding them, and from Jack too, the description of such a unique feel to their skin , like soft rubber. When it is cool out, garter snakes , gator lizards , and salamanders that I have caught, once they feel the warmth of my hand, settle down fast and coil up and enjoy relaxing , tame as a pet . For a few, once caught several times , they become as tame as can be , letting me walk right up to them and slowly pick them up. I always let them go in the exact same spot I found them. Now, to complete my grand slam in finding a boa !

This is a very timely thread. I found a small one identical to the one pictured above in my garage Monday. Cute little devil. I googled it and sure enough...a Rubber Boa. First one ever for me. It appears they like temperatures around 54 degrees and it has been cool here in the Sierras. Take care...

My favorite snake, had one as a pet for years all through school to high school graduation then gave it to a cousin who had an allergies to animal fur but really wanted a pet she loves the thing and will be broken up when it go s which should be soon because it’s approching the 50 year mark at least
Never seen one in the wild mine was given to me by a friend

The friend I got mine from had several and all were extremely tame as was mine I think they are probably the easiest to care for snake there is, even though I am no expert I have had dozens of different ones over the years and none were as easy going and downright friendly as that rubber boa, it would actually come to you when you put your hand down and want to be held

Now for the most important question, do they taste like chicken?
I have nothing clever to put here.
