Hey guys, it usually shocks and disappoints me when I see hunters trash talking trappers, or any outdoorsman against another for that matter. Lots of people say they don’t want me coyote trapping so I don’t mess up their deer hunting. I can kind of understand that to a small degree, but recently I’ve been seeing hunters really hating on trapping.I’ve even seen some devoted hunters claiming they wished trapping was illegal. I know a lot of these people are very uneducated in the trapping field, but how long has this been going on? Is it more of a recent thing? A lot of the older outdoorsmen I know are more then happy to share our natural resources, but recently I’ve noticed some real hate from younger guys. Thanks!!

and the shotgunners have their clique and the archery hunters hate everyone.

about as long as people considered them "their deer" before they had a killing shot and a tag on them

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

The deer thing is just plain ignorance. The rest of it is either from hound guys and competition.

It's been going on as I can remember,it seems like it's worse nowdays, like hunters think they can find common ground with the antis by agreeing on something, like trapping is bad.So they'll throw us under the bus

It's been that way with trappers and houndsmen for ages in our state. The main reason we are not allowed to use bodygrip traps and snares without being a nuisance control operator is because for ages there was a "master of hounds" setting on the board of directors for the wildlife department and he and many other houndsmen fought tooth and nail to get heavy regulation on trapping in Oklahoma. They thought trappers would "catch all the coon" and there would be none for them to run. That's where our coon limit that was just now removed came from. These days we are overwhelmed with coon and hound hunting is all but dead in the western part of the state.

Bait using bear guys trash talk houndsmen, houndsmen trash the trappers and callers after the same critters, traditional archery guys trash the compound users, compound users trash xbow folks. fly fishers trash bait fishers, catch-and-release trash the catch-and-fillet crowd, decoy duckers trash the jump-shoot tribe, turkey callers trash the turkey stalkers.......................................................................................................................................................................................................! In the end we will all lose out to more and thicker populations of people trashing the habitat to the point that there just won't be anywhere left for a harvestable surplus of fish or game.

Never seen that here in North eastern Ontario-Hunters and trappers seem to get along very well, and help each other out.
I did see anti trapping crap going on with hound hunters in southern ontario who were also trappers. They tried to get restrictions on trapping. They claimed to be trappers first but it was clear they were wearing a different hat when they opened their mouths. They were anti trappers of the worst kind.
Once the federation found out what they were doing they were crushed like a worm.

Deer hunters hate Deer hunters. Many do not like the youth season, gun hunter hate the bow hunters, black powder had everyone.
That is why I stopped deer hunter 20 years ago. Don't forget the deer hunters hate the squirrel hunter also. JMO

For me it’s been dog hunters, but it’s tapered off quite a bit after several years of them seeing I’m not going anywhere. Plus, using foot friendly traps, like the MB550 for coyotes and DP’s for coon has helped. Most of the “angry” hunters are angry towards anyone who is more successful they they are. That’s been my experience.

I trap for fun. I skin 'em for the money!

Same here. My house sits in the middle of 6,100 acre state forest. Go to the boat launch or hiking trails and it's a bunch of tofu-eating, spandex-wearing jerks from the city who like to park their Audi in the boat launch ramp area to have some Brie cheese and wine. Of course that Audi moves quickly when I back up my 92 pickup with almost no exhaust or un-rusty body panels to launch my little aluminum boat.

Fireplug, are you near the Hector Federal lands or The Finger Lakes National Forest ?

Around here it's getting to be trappers against trappers,

with our own NYSTA leadership voting to place restrictions
on Northern Zone Trappers to steal a week's worth of
Muskrat trapping on the start of our season that we will
never, ever get back.

They didn't bother to get our approval, and just decided
to take it away without any representation.

Anti-trappers couldn't be any more detrimental to our
Northern Zone trappers.

Disgusting, and Sad.

last year I was checking traps of mine. one was set off. there was a note under it from a coon hunter that said " BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PUT YOUR DAM^ TRAPS. YOU CAUGHT MY FU__ING DOG."

I went to landowner with the note. he called him while I was there. I could hear him telling the landowner that I shouldn't be allowed there. landowner flat told him in a way that was very very plain not to come back.

I had permission to trap a place last year, along with a guy who bow hunted. One day, the bow hunter was waiting by my truck, and told me that I better not come back, or the cops would be called. It wasn’t his property, he just didnt like sharing the land. It absolutely blows my mind that some people think they have that right. Where do they get the idea from that they have the sole right to hunt of the landowner lets 2 people on? The landowner kicked him off that same day lol.

It goes back a long way and you all have great points but I think it's worse with the antler craze and less axcess to privet land as it's being leased.
If I run into a hostile hunter in the field 100% of the time it's a deer hunter. You know the kind of big time outdoors man that talks it up all year, shoots his gun 3 shots he week before season and hunts his two weekend during gun season and heads back to his apartment or subdivision for the rest of the year.
