Well if you get your wish furvor are you going to think the raise of prices in everything you consume is a good thing? I guarantee you trucking companies wont eat the extra cost.

Trains have taken over the long haul stuff with only a few commodities and live stock being exceptions. 5- 600 or less mile runs are 95% of what trucks are doing now. trucks still haul everything to and from the train terminals. there are some really big ones now called intermodal or inland ports.

I'd love to drive for Walmart but it takes 3 yrs experience. I respect truck drivers immensely. Everything comes to town in a truck. Everything leaves town in a truck. I hauled garbage for 21 yrs.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Garry- There's not train tracks near enough towns. The railroad would need to be expanded in a huge way and that takes time and money. Trucking will always be here. The railroads are busy here in Wisconsin and Iowa now so how much more can they handle?. The other thing is time with railroads. There is a lot of switching and adding of cars to build a train. The train you see on the west coast will look far different by the time it gets to the midwest or east coast and it may take weeks to get there. The exception is coal, ethanol or oil for the most part.

Can trains pull off into a field and pick up a load of corn? How about melons? Nope but they're probably in the town that's within 20 miles. Truck the produce to town and load to a train.

For 90k a year a young gentlemen willing to work can get a job in the natural gas business and be home every night to see his young lady. Atleast in NJ. My says I produce a lot of natural gas.

Danny it's not my way, just the facts. The general public currently pays those extra costs through taxes. Paying them via higher priced goods wouldn't be much different. They have to be paid some way. I would rather unmask them. I probably should not have said that - there is a huge backlog of badly needed road and bridge repairs not paid for by anyone, plus road taxes that were collected have been raided for other uses.

interesting opportunities for the right teams. Thanks for posting Danny. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I wonder how any years will be cut off the end of your life by spending 10 years of it sitting in a truck. My dad and uncles were all truckers. All made it into their 80s, one still going strong at 93. Not much different than sitting at a desk job. The key I think is to avoid becoming a complete lard butt.

I was never fond of the “TV Dinner” loads but marine terminal pick ups were always a good work out.
