Everyone seems surprised. This is nothing new. Just a few years ago in a Bloomington park, police chased a cougar,so it wouldn't hurt the kids there. Also ran into evidence of cougar when trapping in the Minnesota river Valley ,just out of the metro twin cities. Tom

115# male is a young one (born last yr) dispersing probably. Now they start finding males 150-200# then I might agree that their established.

The cats that are attracted to populated areas are more likely escaped or released exotics. Occasionally they're found to be over weight and even declawed. That's been the experience here in Ontario. Granted Minnesota is closer to established populations. And neutered!

Besides the times I mentioned in my earlier post,I had to stop my truck to avoid hitting a cougar. This was 30 years ago when trapping near Askov. Also ran into fresh tracks of a female with kittens, while trapping beaver in northwestern MN,10 or 12 years ago. Carrying out beaver when running across fresh cougar tracks--- tends to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Tom

How many mountain lions are there in South Dakota? Apparently all the ones we have in MO walked here from there too. Even the ones with tracking collars.
These guys need to come clean with the truth or concoct a better story. Nobody is buying it anymore. Thats Why They've lost or trust. Everyone knows the Cats are here.

Everyone knows the Cats are here.
Better to deny it so they are not forced to come up with a management plan or possibly run into issues like we have with Lynx.

LOL, you get the same answers -be it cougar or wolves.Funny how the wolf population stays pretty much the same--year after year. Tom

Back in the 60s, my friend and I were hunting the December bow season in Camp Ripley, MN. He hit a decent buck which I helped him trail. We came to a large open field about 200 or so acres. On the far side of the field, running broadside to us was a tan colored animal with a long tail.
When we checked out of camp we informed a couple DNR people at the gate that we were quite certain we had seen a mountain lion. They laughed at us and said there are no mountain lions in MN and that it had to have been a deer. A deer with a 5 foot tail????

A local resident said both he and his wife seen a large cat chasing deer across their field. He was raised on the farm so has a good idea now what animals look like under different conditions. Said the animal chasing the deer was brown and about as large as the deer. Also said the tail was as long as the cat. No farm cat that I know of matches that description.
