John, in many states it's illegal to sell an animal killed any other way besides trapping. Whether you sell a roadkill or not is up to you, and many people do, but you should be aware of the laws. I don't know the laws in your state. I say grab it and skin and gland it. It'll be good practice whether you sell it or not.

Don't even bother to skin it. Get yourself a needle/syringe from the local farm supply store and a jar, and go stick that needle on both sides of his butt and suck out the stink, and squirt it in a jar. Just don't drop the jar. The fur is worthless right now,and if you've not dealt with skinning skunks before, and also not dealt with skinning roadkill before,it'd probably be better to just get the stink juice and leave that carcass where it lays.

When does skunk season open in your state? If it’s not open right now, you might not be allowed to be in possession of it yet.

I don't know about Illinois but we here In WI don't have a season on skunks you can trap them year around.
If the road kill Is a animal that has a season On It we can only pick up that animal during the open season for that animal.
I would draw out the essence then It's a lot safer to skin them. The skin may not be that bad at this time of the year. If It has broad stripes and they are clear( not a yellow color) It may be worth skinning. And I'm pretty sure groney Isn't buying carcass skunks. But you could practice your skinning on this one. As far as the fur market goes It sounds like decent skunks are the only thing worth skinning this year.

Skin it and tan it. You can use the juice for lure for canines in dead of winter,or sell the juice if someone wants to buy it.Or keep it for pranks.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

My advice is if you're going to skin it, be away from your house or even other people. A slip of he knife can do interesting things in getting you noticed! I'll process pepe skins at home, but never skinning them there. Don't even dink with little skunks except maybe the essence and skull (if its legal in your state).

Yes there is a season in Il. for skunks. You must have a trapping lisc. or hunting lisc. to pick up roadkill and then only during open season. Exception to that is deer. They are altogether different to deal with.
To be legal, let it lay.
Well I just looked and seems there is year round hunting of skunk now. I wasn't aware of that. Daylight hours only except for a portion of the year furbearer hunting season is open. So. I guess you can legally pick it up now.

Y’all got some seriously bored GW if they gonna chase someone down for picking up roadkill, lol. It’s dead, might as well make good use of it if you want it. Check with your local GW or ACO. I have handled many a deer or turkey out of season. Most GW or ACO's here will issue you a game tag to legally handle game out of season if they have half a brain. They do not want to see a game animal go to waste. I have had to call GW/ACO's for a bunch of things out of season. Like a turkey i was called for that crashed into a ladies house an was dead at her front step. GW as he was filling out the tag asked if I was going to breast it out , cook it whole or deep fry it. I cooked it whole. Had an ACO fill out a tag for a dead deer that had made it into another ladies back yard after a MV collision , he stated to me , " doesn't she know that if she drags it to the roadside the city will take it away for free ? , screw it , you are making money removing it , here is your tag. " ACO's and GW can be your best friends if you show just a little respect to them.
