I use heritage rough rider on the trapline, never had a single problem with it in the six years I’ve had it. Cheap as they are if it ever broke I’d probably just go buy another for $120. In fact I might go buy another just to have one waiting.

Yes, parts can be hard to find for them but he likely ordered them from one place and that was the end of it. If he were more resourceful he could have checked other parts houses or even Ebay and likely found one 5 years ago.
I have nothing clever to put here.

parts for just about everything is hard to find
I had a S&W out for about 3 months it needs a new hammer , they finally called me last week of September , can't find the parts come pick it up sorry and no charge.
anything that had a weak part has the same weak part on nearly every one and over time they all break
most of the guys who could really work on these revolvers are dead or not far from it.
for the longest time we were of the belief that a good tool lasted a lifetime and could be rebuilt
those were the days , surplus guns were cheap and plentiful and craftsmen were all over the place.
today a good tool is useless for the lack of a 5 dollar part

I had a similar experience years ago with a gunsmith in Fairbanks touted by some as "the best in town". Brought him a rifle for new sights and trigger job. 9 months later, sights were installed but trigger job not complete. This guy must have been hard of hearing because he constantly shouted. Anyway, turns out he broke a spring while working on trigger, didn't fess up, and ordered a new spring from some sort of discount supplier. Back ordered of course. He got super defensive when I asked about it's progress. I took to dropping by every so often, hoping to spur him to work on it. I finally got it back, minus the trigger job but with a big bill. I found and replaced the spring on my own in only a few months. Thankfully, he's out of business, at least, his shop has been demolished. Anyway, I think a good gunsmith is tough to find nowadays, and I think you are definitely being treated poorly and unfairly.

I keep looking for the AR-15 of bolt action rifles however I don't think it exists exactly and if it does it is the aftermarket Rem700 parts
so many Rem 700 clone type receivers
the tools , info and parts are there to build custom 700s truing the bolt face , lapping the bolt lugs
is it the best action? it seems to be a good enough action that can be made to do extremely well.
something that you can get all the parts for and keep fixing yourself
if you use a rem-age savage style Remington thread barrel you can change barrels without a lathe
